Live Boolean and creating a boolean mesh not working for my model

Im trying to prepare a miniature for 3D printing. Live boolean is refusing to make a mesh for me with the subtractions I need.

From what Ive read coplanar surfaces are the culprit, but zbrush docs tell me to simply ‘move the object a little bit’ to solve the issue. Thats not exactly helpful in my current project, Im trying to create slots in the back of a nymph using its wings, so that I can 3D print the body separate from the wings and have slots to glue the wings in to, like most miniatures have. I also want her body to carve an imprint into the mushroom, so that it slots in there as well. And finally the mushroom/log/leaf subtool would be slotted into the base.

Ive googled and found little explanation on a possible solution, can anyone offer advice? The subtools are the body, two separate wing subtools, the mushroom and foliage, and the base. The rabbits are separate and do not need any slotting.

Live boolean works and shows the desired ‘cuts’, but I cant get a mesh generated.

Really hard to tell with the information you are giving us. Screenshots might help! In the meantime : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qFUH4zMCTo&list=PLkzopwqcFevY_yAkRTXflCN5KXYmcUvhi&index=17

Alright Ive got that queued up to watch, pasting this in so that you can see what I mean…I want the slot cut out for the wings, like the one shown on the right. That way when its printed in separate parts, they can be glued together seamlessly.

I don’t think coplanar faces are the culprit in this case … just for the fun of it … create a duplicate of the subtools and try to boolean. If that doesn’t work try the same with a quick and dirty Dynamesh (Or Zeremesh). I’m suspecting some dodgy geometry to be the culprit hence the duplicates. Thinking about it … How about Decimating first and boolean after? Really just spitballing here hoping that it helps

I have no idea but that did fix it (decimation first). I thought I was meant to wait until things were finished with the model before decimating, so I never even considered it.

But thanks! From there it worked just as it should.

That’s the cool thing about Booleans in ZB. Doesn’t matter what kind of geo u use. Dynamesh, decimated, Dynamic Subdiv, Primitives … it all works. Glad that it worked!

@ZachJ, I really come across strange things with zbrush over time, try to disable any system defenders (if you use it on mac), for windows 10 it really helps. Good luck!
