Hello guys. I am in the retopology part of my Introducing Zbrush v3 book and have a hopefully small issue. I have some polygons that cut through my model instead of following the general shape of it. I am assuming I probably made these polys too big to begin with and that’s why. I just don’t know how to fix them now that I have made them. Here is a pic :
Any help appreciated. Really having fun learning Zbrush and thankful there are people here that don’t mind answering newbie questions.
I would assume I could just move the vertices out some but Zbrush wont let me select the ones that are under the mesh. It only lets me click on the ones that are outside connected by the yellow edges.
Is symmetry turned on? If so, it has been known to cause some issues. Try turning it off, retopo half the object and then mirror and weld later.
Personally I don’t think it’s worth learning Zbrush’s Topology tool. It’s way too limited and ancient. It’s really terrible compared to other modern tools available.
Learn the auto topology tools and for manual topology I would learn something else like Blender, 3DCoat, Max, Maya, etc. I would even rather use 4R7’s Zmodeler than their Topology tool. I wish Pixologic would apply their creativity to a much better manual tool. A great manual topology tool would go great together with auto topology as I believe both are needed to improve time and useability.
i think turning on transparency and Ghost mode will allow you to select the verts that are inside your model

Doug you can totally move the verts if you switch to move mode
It’s not intuitive and not quite as simple as you imply. This was copied from the online docs.
"Note:It is possible to edit a curve created by the Topology brush by picking any other Curve brush, making sure that Bend is on and completing your edits. Switch back to the Topology brush when done.

This thread is pertaining to ZSphere Retopology. The Topology brush is different and has nothing to do with ZSphere Retopology.
Zbrush v3 book
May be a bit outdated?
I misunderstood. I haven’t used ZSphere re topology or the Topology brush or many of ZBrushes awesome features. I do try to be helpful though.
Wow, sorry guys, I did not know anyone replied as I never got an email letting me know about it. I figured out a way to do it watching a topology vid online. If I turn on solo mode it removes the view of the mesh and then I can select the vertices and move them out then once they are out of the area the mesh was at I can move them where I want them with the mesh visible again. The only downside here is that they no longer attempt to snap to the mesh after I move them manually.
The book I am reading is Introducing Zbrush 3rd edition by Eric Keller. It was done in 2012 so it may be a bit out dated now. This may actually be a problem I am having with another part of the book. I will ask here instead of making a new thread unless someone feels I should.
I am trying out Transpose Master following the books guidelines and it wants me to save my Transpose Project using the plugins Save TM Prj button…there isn’t one unless it is somewhere else? The book shows a pic that has the save and load buttons as part of the TM cluster but I do not see them in my copy of Zbrush. Have they been moved somewhere else or are they no longer needed for some reason?
Sorry again for not replying sooner. I have the Subscribe to thread button on but for some reason I was never notified
Also, Symmetry was enabled as that was how the book wanted me to do it. I actually stopped trying to retopo this model as I started getting an error message that would crash zbrush over and over again. I was doing fine other than being unable to select the vertices under the mesh. I figured out a way around that and then I started having zbrush crash on me while trying to retopo the model. Eventually I gave up and decided to try retopology again later and moved to the next section of the book.
Oh cool, thanks Doug.
