Hey guys, could you please gimme some comments on my latest Wip Sculpture?
Head’s too big. Also, Kratos has really, really long legs.
Thx man!

I think he is overall too short. I count only 6.5 heads?
To give you a bit of a hint about the direction you should take with his proportions, I took the liberty of doing a quick paint-over. I intentionally blurred it, so you can focus on the proportions and overall shape.
note, this isn’t perfect either, it should only give you a hint for the rough direction. so… keep on working it
overall I think your anatomy is good, I think julian is right, that your scaling is off a bit. The head is sitting really high also. Did you try maybe using the 7 to 7.5 heads scaling method for the overall height? Good sculpting though
Actually I think Kratos is more the 9 heads superhero type if you look at the link below. haven’t measured it, but my guess is really 9 heads super hero proportions. at least
Wow, thx a lot for the Comments, guys! They help a ton.

Ok, got an Update.
Please comment, I want to make this really good. (Ignore the cloth, just started it)

hm… well, his proportions are still off. head, hands, feet and probably his thighs are too big in relation to the rest of the body. going a bit more into detail I would highly recommend spending more time with his head while having a good look at references. currently he looks a bit like a very old grumpy man
really, take your time, and study references for Kratos. the more and better you see him, the better you can do.
for example, take a Kratos concept like the one I linked to in this thread, flip it vertically so he stands on his head and now look at his shape. flipping it vertically helps you to focus just on his shape in an abstract way without being to much distracted by your perception of the character.
Also i would suggest re-visiting the ribcage mass and really working on the overall gesture and shape of the underlying masses, your surface detail is very good and it is just that overall proportional tweak you must work on!
Kratos is one of my favourite characters so i cannot wait to see what you come up with!
hey frae
Before any crits, I would like to say that you obviously have some talent. There are spots where the anatomy is quite well rendered, and over all I would say that it is a strong piece. There are some spots that are in need of some work. First off, I don’t know anything about the character Kratos, but to me, the head is sitting way to high up. You could keep the traps where they are if you want, just try lowering the head. There seems to be a desparity between the face and the rest of the body. What I mean is that the face has a more “caricature” look to it than the rest.
The area where the pecs and the bicep flows together should be more subtle under the arm. It looks like a really hard crease all the way into the arm where the pecs would attach to the humerous. Pecs aren’t usually that “full” that far into the arm and even when flexed they flow more gradually into the seratus muscles.
The thighs seem a bit clunky and and dont seem to fit the proportions in relation to the waist. The calves seem to be almost non-existant for such a muscular leg.
One thing to keep in mind. It seems like a lot of people think they need to sculpt every muscle super defined, not matter what pose the body is in. The only time the body looks like this naturally is when someone is flexing on stage to win a contest. At rest the tension is gone from most of the muscle masses. Consider this when sculpting, it will lend realism to what you are doing, unless you are going for the super-cut regardless look. I mean all of what I said to be constructive, hope it helps. Keep up the good work
Thx Guys for all your input, I really appreciate it and I can see the Sculpture getting better and better every day. I really seldom got that many good and constructive critiques.
Thx

Are you trying to make a more realistic Kratos, a hyper-real Kratos, or are you attempting to copy him tit for tat?
As for anatomy if you look at Kratos from the game he has HUGE ribs/upper abs and a REALLY full chest. That’s only if you are looking at re-creating the true Kratos though. In any style you chose his neck is not there. You need to lower his traps a little so he can turn his head. Right now there’s nothing to turn with, he couldn’t even look over his shoulder.
Keep it up man.
Not a bad start at all You need to move his elbows up toward the shoulder a bit. The distance from the shoulder to the elbow, and from the elbow to the wrist should be the same on a human. Also, he’s suffering from bubble-muscle syndrome. Not sure what brushes you’re using, but if you aren’t doing so already, try using the clay tubes to build forms, and the rake brush to equalize the surface. When you use those brushes, work in the same direction that the muscle flows in nature. Also try working with a matcap that over accentuates things and makes them pop (bump viewer mat is a good one), that way when you use a regular matcap it will get toned back. Good luck!
Alright Guys, ive been working a lot on him the last week. Tell me what you think (the seams are obvious, ill fix them when the Models done).

As a gamer and gow 3 fan i would say you better think again. But as an Artist a say a nice starting point and you could spend more time if you like to. It goes the right way i think. Lower the contrast of the eyes its to bright.
nice so far:+1:
my tip the head is a little bit to big the body must appear stronger.
The example from Julian_K hits the point.
Just realized this thread is old sorry
