Wow! Great model and great attention to detail. Keep it coming!
Well, I wanted to make something steampunky with a bit of wow effect, and now I’m feeling completely stuck on how to develop the rest of the outfit (skirt and boob covering has me perplexed). :o
I’m not in love with either, and will dig through reference pics to see if I don’t get any new ideas! These are just early base models, still in Max.
Critique welcome!!! :qu: :qu: :qu:
Here are couple versions:

Like the first bra design best!! Love the wings. Those are very cool!
Not to be OT, can I pick your brain for a moment? Here or where ever, up to you… Thanks Con!
Try a Frazetta painting for inspiration … especially his John Carter of Mars paintings.
Thanks guys!
Looking at it some more, and from different angles etc… I think the overall shape of the skirt was a problem. It was too bulky.
Wolfie… email me.
Strange design, but I like it. I’d develop it in a more constructionist manner, or effect at least - more asymmetrical. Here’s an example of tatlin http://purplemotes.net/extras/tatlin.jpg But your art is your own, you gotta feel it, so good luck
Thanks Cherub
Here’s some progress on my current outfit. Most of it is modeled, UV mapping it now. After that it’ll be textured and detailed out in Zbrush.
Pic made in Max, with quick procedural mats applied to it.
Really nice. I like where you are going with this, i cant wait to see it all done.
looks like you have a cool thing here.i think what you did to the bra and
stuff like that looks much better than before.the helmet looks quite cool.
the pinup style girl looks great too.
Wow, I wish ZBrush could do renders with raytracing like that.
All Zbrush needs is better support for raytracing and SSS in rendering, and texture paint layers and it will be perfect, IMHO.
Dagoned, Al.Tintop and Eric, thanks for looking and compliments.
I can’t wait to finish UV mapping it, so I can start texturing, and painting displacements and other details!
Modeled, UV mapped, rigged and morphed (couple hundred morphs in this thing)
Now I’m finally getting to the fin part… wrinking and texturing.
This is a WIP, of course.
Texturing progress on the cap…Texture still isn’t fully painted, but it’s getting there. This is a WIP render is from DAZ Studio, average quality.
I was going to make on in Max, in Mental Ray/max, but I forgot most of what I knew about it in last 6 months - which wasn’t much to begin woth, so I need to re-learn stuff. For now, I have to finish this darn project. I’ve been working on it for three months now.
I didn’t know you were making this and its probably too late to give you this link for more ideas. Who knows maybe you might make an extra bracelet or something.
Thanks for the link SadamHu! Never can have enough reference and idea photos
Anyone here really good with Max and Mental Ray?
I have a question…
I’m having a heck of a time getting MR’s SSS shaders to render anything but black.
They look fine in shader preview. I’m using max 2010, MR renderer with medium quality settings, five MR spotlights in a simple scene. Architectural and other MR related shaders work as expected. Skin shaders, with SSS render all black. Is theer a known SNAFU that can cause that? It has me head baging on my desk for two days now, and I can’t figure it out.
I don’t know if it’s my lights, render settings or shader setup. Even default SSS FastSkin+Displacement(mi) shader renders black, before I plug in any texture maps into it. What am I missing?
Any tips would be appreciated!
Here’s an example of what I get… :o

Not sure if this is it, but you may need to go into the shader settings “Advanced Options” and turn of ‘Screen’ (soft) compositing of layers. Also, if you want indirecxt lights to affect the SSS you’ll need to turn on Scatter Indirect Illumination. Hope that’s it. If not, let me know, we can track it down.
Ooooh, Royalwin, that worked like a charm. THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH!
Excellent! Glad it worked.
YAY, I got a semi decent render out of MAX thanks to your help. This is my very first serious attempt. I know, I know… It still needs a lot of tweaking and improvement, but I’m okay with it for starters…
What can I say, I can model and texture, but can’t render well  darn learning curve.
BTW, cap and wings and clothing is my work. The girl is a poser figure exported to Max. I’m making the outfit for Poser content marketplace, over at DAZ, so it needs to fit their base model. That’s the nature of the job
