I’ve been learning ZBrush for a while now, but always in fits and starts, always learning something one day only to forget it the next day. My work is uneven in scope and skill, and I’ve been hesitant to start a sketchbook here on ZBC until now, until I started the painted egg project.
Years ago, I painted landscapes on eggs. I loved the surface, the way it took the pigment. Now, as I’m learning how to paint in ZBrush, I thought pursuing that familiar pastime would help me through the process. Here are the first two eggs, three views of each one. The daisies were made with the Gear 3D. Once I figured out how to make a rose, I realized any flower was possible and that the Gear was a powerful Primitive. I used them to create an Alpha/Texture stamp, a technique discovered quite by accident because I forgot to turn Texture off after Texture failed (the black background showed on a simple texture ‘stamp’)and I tried to use an Alpha made of the same daisy image. I bet all you folks knew this, already. I employed the same technique tp place the fairy on the rock. It’s an old, old sculpt, happily photographed against a dark background.
Saturday, I begin learning from Paul Gaboury via ZBrush Workshops.
