Karsa Orlong

Righteo! this is pretty much my first attempt at zbrush (apart from a vase) and there’s so much I still need to learn, so any crit and feedback would be awesome thought there’s a couple o’ things that really had me baffled

1, what is the best method for doing ears?
2, is there any way to separate the textures between the subtools? eg metal for the earrings white shading for the eyes etc

sorry if these questions are extremely obviouse but hey I’m a newbe and just to clarify the lines on the face are supposed to be tattoos of cracks

In 3D and other things there is usually many ways to do things. (as im sure you are aware) For ears pull out the rough shanpe of them in a low level of polygon first or second, if you want to see what it looks like more smoothed just go up a level or two and hit crtl z to go back, that way you can do the big roughing out parts in with the least levels of polygons, youl have more control. Great start :+1:

Wow, I don’t know if anyone else on here has done a character from Steven Erriksons wonderfull (but extremly complex) books, so I’m just gonna say… You beat me to it! (I had planned to create the first sword Dasem Ultor)

It looks good so far, but if you don’t mind me saying not exactly what a Trell In my minds eye would look like. There should be I think a certain neanderthal look to him, a feral quality due to his prominent tusks/fangs.

Just my thoughts and I know it’s very early in this models life. I’m just happy some is making a character from one of my favorite books

wow cheers Ben I think ctrl d and z are some of my new favorite buttons especially now I’m starting to understand alphas a bit better, just like photoshop brushes (duh!)
Thanks for the cool comment too ZedHead it’s cool to know there’s a malazan fan here, though Karsa is a Toblikai, Mappo is the Trell, hmmmm he would be pretty cool to do.
just a quick query, is there any way to cut a masked portion of your model?

Doh! You are indeed right, Karsa is indeed a Thelomen Toblikai.

As for cutting the masked portion of you model you should be able to work on the masked portion using cut (found near add and sub) this should allow you to do what you need.

ps: Which Malazan book have you got up to? or have you read them all yet?

I have indeed dude, I’m kinda going out of my mind wait6ing for the next book, filling in the time in between doing a fair amount of 2d malazan art which you can see here if you like http://slaine69.deviantart.com/gallery/#Erikson-art
thanks a lot for the tip as well I think I need all the help I can get at the mo z brush is so much fun but its frustrating when you have no idea how to do something one of the biggest problems I’ve got right now is hard edges and straight lines, pretty much everything I do looks organic which I imagine wouldn’t bode well for plate armor or something

for hardedges in zbrush I always use a combination of high sub-divisions, lazy mouse and the pinch brush. This combination will allow you to draw lines with more accuracy and those lines will have the hard manufactored look you are after

Hope this helps

I just tried it dude aaaaaaah I’m no longer slipping into agitated madness, thank you with bells on and not the Christmas kind either, the whiskey!!

LOL! No worries bro.

Just took a look at your 2D stuff, pretty cool :+1:

cheers bro glad you like it
