inserting Zspheres

Hi, I’m new to these boards so hello to all.

I’m working my way through the Practical Guide. In the Scimitar tutorial (p216). It tells you to ‘add another zsphere along the chain of linking spheres’. how is this done please ?

Cheers

If I understand what you are asking it’s easy.
Make sure you are in Edit/Draw and then click on one of the gray connecting linking spheres.

I must be missing something here…I’ve gone into Edit >Draw mode. The selected tool is currently the scimitar. Do I change to the ZSphere tool ?
I tried this but it only drew a Zsphere onto the canvas (it was not in the chain)and now I cannot get back to edit mode…

I had difficulty doing the end of that tutorial- finally got the ZSphere to appear but then had difficulty moving it. Presumably to move it you must be in Edit/Move mode ? I’ve found the practical guide very informative so far but I think that that tutorial would benefit from a little more explanation in it.

Sorry I didn’t respond right away - it’s the 4th of July holiday weekend.

Anyway, you seem to be getting along fine!
Looks like you discovered the hard & fast rule that when you select another tool, the current tool (in this case Scimitar) is dropped to the 2D plane. No more editing.

The Scimitar is the ZSphere tool. To switch back to the ZSpheres view, you simply press A. At that point, you can Add/Move/Scale/Rotate ZSpheres to your heart’s content before activating the preview by pressing A again so that you can see the mesh.

While the ZSpheres are visible, you can also use the Tool>Adaptive Skin>Insert Local Mesh or Insert Connector 3D Mesh button to open the pop-up Tool palette and select another mesh to insert. This does not take you out of Edit mode with the ZSphere model.

Thanks for the help GregMalik. I finally got to the end of the turorial  though I’ll do it again no doubt. It seems to me that I need to understand the basic principles in ZBrush- I’ll get there in the end.

I am having difficulties completing the same tut I can’t seem to get the hilt to connect as show in the manual. see my screen shotzbrushtut.jpg
Also the tutorial does not state whether the XY symmetry is still active I assume it isn’t as the diagram only shows 1 orange square. And can someone please explain why I don’t see 2 copies of the hilt inserted as indicated in the manual.
TIA

Yes, the image is exactly the way mine turned out initially- I also could not see the two copies as stated. I did get the right result but I’m afraid I can’t offer much assistance as I fumbled my way through it (unlike the rest of the manual up to this point where every step was clear) and I haven’t had chance to redo it yet to clarify what I did

Here is the solution(figured it out like 10 sec ago :D). Create a Zsphere next to the big one and leave it alone, next create another Zsphere in between the Zspere in the middle and the one you just created, it will create 2 zspheres so delete the one that you didnt want to create. Then drag the one you just created into the large one(you can hold down shift so it will move in a straight line) then insert the hilt

Sorry if my english isnt perfect, from sweden.

thanks Heggiiman I tried your step and it worked I guess I will never find out what went wrong. It would be nice if the script could be posted.

Thanks Heggiiman, I’ll try that once I get a chance of getting back to ZBrush

np, only sharing what i know

Hi-
Sorry to re-awaken this thread but I’m having difficulty with adding the zsphere in this tutorial. If I read this correctly you need to go to tools and pick Zsphere from the selection, but when I do that it asks “Would you like to exit edit/transform mode and switch tools?” I select Yes and then draw my zsphere on the page and cannot move or edit the zsphere in edit mode. I’m not grasping this software at all. Help!!!
