Impossible to load SVG file

I’m trying to load SVG file into Zbrush [Zplugin > Text 3d & Vector shapes > New SVG].
All I see is short message “Unsupported file”. The SVG file is for sure valid and been checked by my coworker at his computer (with the same version of Zbrush).
Anyone knows what could be the reason? Do I miss any windows library?

Hi Tazzman

Zbrush version? OS? If not using the most up to date version of Zbrush, please upgrade before reporting any compatibility issues. Obsolete versions are not officially supported.

Can you import any .SVG files?

I just imported an svg from AI at default export settings with no apparent issues. I would just remind you that the .svg file needs to contain only closed shapes with no open curves.

If none of that applies to you and you are certain that the file in question is the proper format, you will need to contact Support along with the file that won’t import. It may be a compatibility issue, it may be an issue with your installation. In either case, that is your best bet.

Hello,
Zbrush 2019.1.2, Win10, Surface Book 2.
I can’t import ANY SVG file. It’s frustrating because the same file can be opened by anyone else without issues. The Zbrush just gives answer 'Unsuported file". The SVG has been created with standart AI settings.
I’ve reinstalled Zbrush couple of times. Is there any library outside Zbrush and Zbrush uses it import SVG file which I don’t have?

I can’t answer that question. Obviously it should be working. I would guess at some sort of installation issue–remember to always disable any Antivirus while installing/updating. AV running during installs is a common source of complications.

My recommendation remains to make a Support ticket and have them work through it with you. If it’s an installation issue, they are better equipped to help you, and if there is some compatibility issue, or a missing component, they need to know that as well.

Good luck!

I have the same problem. No information/ No help. I mean the cause hide in OS Win 10. And I used Zbrush older version - same result. I had hepl of other user , he can open SVG easy , but I is not.

in illustrator copy the shape and paste it into a new layer and export the .svg again. There’s some creation or exporting error with illustrator I think. See if this works if it is still an issue no one’s solved.

Ran into this error today as well. I discovered that drawing out vector paths in Photoshop, selecting them and then saving them as svg is not enough for Zbrush to understand them as vectors -they have to be closed paths (of course) and they have to be vector shape objects for Zbrush to read them! Paths are not automatically vector shape layers in Photoshop, they are only vector paths!

So what you need to do, is after drawing your paths with the pen tool (for example), click on the path and then in the upper left area in Photoshop, click on “shape” (it’s to the left of the “Selection” and “Mask” options). This will convert your path to a shape vector layer! Then, file>export this out as svg and zbrush will not error anymore on importing this sucker!

Hope this helps!
Cheers!

Hello all,

I have been having the same issue but in my case, I was using SVG created directly in Illustrator.

Believe it or not, in my case the problem seems to be related to the location of the file itself. Apparently SVG that is saved in locations with what it seems to be a path that is too long do not load.

When I copy and paste those files in the Desktop of my Widows10 computer, Zbrush import them just fine.

I hope that can help.

Cheers.

Same problem here and i have the latest version of Zbrush, I’ve tried with many SVG files and nothing is working.

Please contact ZBrush support for any technical issues with your ZBrush installation. We cannot assist you with the problem over the public forums.

Thank you!

You’re Great!!!

Thanks Manuel!
I used SVGs plenty of times and never ever had issues importing SVGs… until today.
Today when importing, ZBrush showed me the “Unsupported File” error. I tried exporting in all the possible SVG formats that Illustrator has. Nothing happened.

Until I searched and found your answer. So I tested it, I moved the file to the root folder on the disk and… IT WORKED!! So THANKS for that!!

In addition to that I FOUND THE ISSUE that is causing the error:
The problem seems to be that the plugin is not compliant with filenames or paths with UNICODE characters in it, only with ANSI. (This means only the regular US alphabet is covered but not the international one)

In my path (not in the filename) to the SVG, I had a folder with a spanish local character, precisely the Ñ (in the word “diseño”, as “design” in spanish) and that generated the “Unsupported File” error.

FYI this bug is still happening in ZBrush 2024.0.1.17 in case it helps, to solve it.
Thanks!!
