I’ve been planning to do an Ibex for some time. I have just been trying to get better before I did. Good work man, i am jealous that i didn’t start one before. Goodluck, the anatomy looks great keep it up. Get some real world reference and make i real!
beautiful work!
Wow! now thats a fantastic pose man you can almost feel the power and action in this render of yours…
(tips hat) to a wonderful work of art.
way to go Chris
all the best Lou
very elegant piece! The studies beforehand are quite nice too.
Wonderful
I cant help but wonder though if the hoof still in contact with the ground were bent forward still pushing away from the ground if it would not express the motion better?
Thanks for all the inputs everyone!
Regarding that back leg, I’ve read several suggestions here that I want to try, but I should mention that my options are a little limited because the legs are held a certain way throughout the jump, and I’m trying to keep the pose accurate. I’d claim artistic license, but that seems to make it look ‘off’, probably because we’re used to seeing photos of the pose where it looks natural and consistent from one bovid or equid to the next.
I’m gonna experiment with the rock. I’ll also add some stuff into the foreground, like a smaller rock, to see if that helps. I’m really reluctant to have him out of contact with the ground, as I wanted something that could stand on its own as a piece of sculpture. That would work for a render though. We’ll see. I think I’ve seen some other ZBrush mid-air stuff now that I think about it.
Im assuming you’ll be implementing some collision damage on the horns.Beautifull model and pose, regards cal
Beautiful work and the pose is perfect.
Beautiful sculpt …keep it going
Thanks everyone; glad you like where this is going.
calum5ZB: Yes, I’ll have some battle damage there. I’ll be adding character in other ways too, not the least of which is more muscle and fur and maybe a knick or two. Time will tell.
Great work Chris! Love the sculpt and the sketches/studies you posted! !
Very cool model!!!
awesome work. Is that a matcap? If so would you please tell me which, I love how clean it looks. Really well done, and nice “non-alien, non cyborg, blah, blah, blah” subject matter. Refreshing. Keep 'em comng.
lol, thx Kansuke, about departure from the norm. And no, that’s not a matcap. It’s GI using mental ray.
very lively pose , and awesome work . one thing that bothered me when I saw the last image was the ribcage definition its kinda bit off, I think it needs to be more angular rather than going straight up.
Eager to see the final output .
Thanks to all of you for the feedback.
Etcher: Thanks. I’m a huge fan of your work!
I know I said I was going to wait till I was done the sculpt before I posted again, but it’s been too long. I’ve been bogged down on other things. So I’m posting this update.
Much more muscle and form and expression here. The only things left are the fur, the scarring on the body and horns and the plinth. Quite a lot really.

WOW !
Love it !
Thanks guys. Glad you’re liking it.
For the next little while, I’m going to try to continue doing this and the Global Hawk Poster concurrently. It makes life difficult and seems to tax the speed at which I can do each. arg. So this will still be a bit slow but I’ll get em done.
