I Need More Polygons?

Hey everyone,

I’m in the process of learning a ZBrush workflow and currently have a small piece I’m working on to learn the new workflow. I’m running into issues with requiring more polygons but I know I’m going wrong somewhere. I’ve tried Remeshing, zRemesh, Decimation and DynaMesh combinations with no such luck.

Hopefully the images attached help but I has made a mesh in 3DS Max, brought into ZBrush for finer detail sculpting using brushes and alphas to stamp in to the surface, but none of them provide the sharp detail I’m looking for so I figure I need more polys right? I try to bump up the polygon limit but my system crashes even with 32GB of RAM :o

Can anyone tell me where I’m going wrong or have any suggestions?

Thanks!

You could split polygroups to subtools…what is your end requirement?

from looking at that wire frame it doesn’t look like it’s been remeshed.

the way it looks to me is, you have 8 million polys but the flow is funky so you don’t get clean detail where you stamp.

i would make a duplicate to work on. decimate it down to about a million or so polys…that should be plenty to hold the detail you currently have.
then dynamesh to get clean topology. once it’s down to a million or less you can subdivide higher and your finer detail and stamps will be clean.

also as doug mentioned you can throw subtooling into the work flow.

Awesome, sounds like a plan!

Thanks to you both and I’ll give it a go. By the way the screenshot of the wire was just the imported mesh sub’d without any remesh or that :+1:

I’ve managed to follow the steps above and I do get a better distribution of polys but unfortunately ZBrush still pushes more to edges where I have my support edges in. It’s the support edges I’ve added in within 3DS Max that’s giving me issues with an even distrubtion of polys. I need to be able to get smoothing groups imported as creased edges in ZBrush, I know there was an old plugin for 3DS Max that did it but it no longer works. Does anyone have any suggestion on how to get hard edges into ZBrush without the need of supporting edges?

Thanks again!

UPDATE: I think I’ve done it! I used zRemesher and it appears to be working correctly now  not too sure what was going on before
