I can not open my save file (Windows system, ZTL file)

Zbrush just crashes when i try to open my save file. ITs ZTL file = 97 megs LEVEL 6 but i saved it at lave 1, i have around 5.1 million polygons for the model in total. This is what I get:
AppName: zbrush2.exe
AppVer: 2.0.0.0 ModName: ntdll.dll ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180
Offset: 000111de

My system info:
ZBrush is installed on my C:\ drive that has about
20gigs of free space left…

Any idea why ?

The funny thing is ZBrush allowed me to go to level 7 with more then 5 million polygons and i even could work with the file for quit some time but then one day i just could not open anymore… What I am trying to say here, i just lost 12hours of work. Its one thing when Zbrush would not let me go that high and absolutely an other when it allowed me to work with that amount of geometry and then just would not open the file…

The problem is that you’re attempting to work with a mesh that’s too dense for the amount of available physical memory in your system. You may want to either work with a smaller mesh (which can also be done by splitting your mesh into multiple parts so that none of them have too many polygons), or add more RAM to your system.

Please see the info in the FAQ>General section of ZBC that deals with performance tips. This will give you some very helpful do’s and don’ts for working with ZBrush and changing your preferences settings.

The modeling is done…
I am at level 6 and its = 1.2 million polygons.
But when i got to level 7 it gave me over 5 millions :frowning: i have to do that because at level 6 i dont have enough geometry to generate displacement maps (Vines, pores…) It would be nice if i could tell Zbrush to subdivided geometry only up to 2-3 millions not go any higher. But like i sayed after level 6 goes leve 7 and it brinds me to over 5 millions :frowning:

One thing i just do not like about ZBrush, there is no way to control which part of the geometry should be subdivided more then the other :frowning:

yes there is, you an hide a part of the mesh, go to sub - div 1, then sub-divide, and that will increase mesh density for the part you hide

I don’t recomend that approach, really, since it produces triangles in the mesh. Here’s a better way:

  1. Hide half the model.
  2. Press Tool>Clone. This creates a duplicate of the model.
  3. Go to level 1 and press Tool>Geometry>Delete Hidden
  4. Select the original copy of the model.
  5. Invert the visibility, go to level 1, and Delete Hidden

You will now have two meshes of about 600,000 polygons each. Dividing will bring you up to 2.4 million polygons per half – an amount that your system should be able to deal with reasonably.
