How to set number hotkeys for brushes on a notebook with no numpad?

I have seem many videos where people say I just need to press the brush I need to make a hotkey while holding ctrl+alt followed by the key I want to use. Zbrush says the hotkeys have been assigned but the brushes are not changing when I press 1,2 and 3 on my keyboard. I’m using a notebook keyboard that has no numpad so I figured this might be happening because of that, however I haven’t found an option in ZBrush to emulate numpad anywhere. What should I do?

After experimenting I realized the hotkey does not work when it gets assigned to ‘‘Popup+Number’’ (see first image) but the hotkey works when it is assingned simply to “number” (see second image).

Now I don’t know exactly what this popup key mean

Hello @renight0

Some keys will resist hotkey assignments, or conflict with hardcoded functions. This is especially true for brushes, because they are associated with a number of hard coded, context sensitive functions. You should not, for instance, use Shift or Ctrl as modifiers for a brush hotkey as those are hardcoded functions in the context of brush usage. I recommend following the directions on this page for customizing the key sequence for a brush assignment, as their single key hotkey potential is more limited compared to other functions:

You can also change the last letter hotkey used to pick a brush from the brush popup, such as changing the default **B+S+T** for the Standard Brush to B+S+ **X :**
  1. Press B so the brush popup shows.
  2. Press the initial letter of the brush you want (for example, S for Standard Brush)
  3. Hold Ctrl+Alt and click on the brush icon in the popup.
  4. Press the key on your keyboard that you want to use.

If you believe you are encountering a bug someplace with hotkey assignment, this needs to be reported to Pixologic support via ticket in order to recieve technical attention.

Hi. This morning I realized that I could assign a single key (or combination of keys ex.: alt+1) to the brushes I wanted if I searched them inside the brush menu. Yesterday I was pressing B (to open the brush menu) + M (to get to the brushes that started with the letter M) and finally I assigned a number key to the brush I wanted (it was the Move brush). I found out that if I just presse B and went directly to assign a hotkey to the brush I want it works as I was expecting it would. Thanks anyway!
