How to delete internal faces?

i have obj model
there is alot of structures inside
i only want the surface mesh you can see
how do i delete the internal faces???

[edit]
one solution = blender
thanks Richard Marklew

I attached jpg of process i followed
seems very long winded approach
there needs to be a button you can press in zbrush

Hide what you no longer need and and use “Del Hidden” on the Geometry tab of the Tools pallet.

I’m trying to mask just the very outer mesh layer so i can then invert and delete everything else.

How do I control the depth of the mask, when I try, the masking goes through many layers.

That question is explained fully in the ZClassroom tutorial “Optimizing”. You’ll find it in the Sketching With ZSpheres Basics tutes for ZBrush 3.5. It uses the Optimize button in the ZSketch palette.

i need to be able to adjust the masking depth, how can i???

You need to hide (Ctrl+Shift) not mask (Ctrl)

Richard

ctrl+shift doesnt work
the internal structures and the outer mesh are all merged as one obj
plus some parts of the internal structures make up the outer mesh
i just need to be able to mask the very outer mesh layer
i could then invert and del hidden

Excuse me it’s the ZSketch palette you open & click Optimize.

does the Optimize button work with imported .obj files or just zspheres

I’m sure that optimize button is just for ZSpheres because it is when you’re in sketch mode in ZSpheres but there is another method for reducing polys on imported objects. I ran acrossed it somewhere. Maybe in the manual you could find something on imported objects that would explain it. It might even had been a plugin I seen I’m not sure now but I know you can do it.

OK it’s the Decimation Master plugin you can find on the Pixologic plugin page that reduces polys.

yes i used the decimation master its very good, does not remove internal meshes though

this software looked promising, i couldnt get it to work right though

i’m new to 3d but seriously this seems like essential need to know info, surely someone must have the solution

Its difficult to help given that only you know what your obj looks like. Everyone else is in the dark. Post the obj, an image, anything?

Richard

sorry, here is an image, i masked out a cross section
he looks a bit messy as im using him to practice on
the more i work on a model with extract etc the more
dense these inside mesh become!

If was wanting to get rid of the internal faces I wouldn’t do it in zbrush, much too cumbersome. I use blender as my preferred poly modeller. I’d import the obj into blender, in edit mode set to occlude background geometry, select all visible faces around the object and separate them from the mesh. This just gives the the faces on the surface. May need a little tiding up but will get rid of all the internal faces.

Richard

thanks rich i will give this a try

Your method worked Rich! thanks very much

it’s by no means perfect but it will do nicely until something better comes along

If anyone knows a better method they can please post

I attached the method I followed in first post
