Its too bad this program has such a high learning curve, I cant get to the basics of rotating and moving an object around, amorphium is much easier to use and user friendly.
Go to ‘Transform’, and you’ll find ‘Move’, ‘Scale’, and ‘Rotate’…
Select one of these and you’ll see a ‘Gyro’ tool you can perform the desired action with…
The very FIRST thing you should do is run all the tutorials that come with the program, and download the ‘Quick Reference’ guides that you’ll find if you check the ‘Quicklinks’ at the top of the page…These will answer all your questions, in an easy to understand format, and if you print out the ‘Quick Reference’ guides, and keep them handy while you work, you’ll find it will become easier very quickly…There is a ‘Quick Reference’ for the interface as well as all the other features, in an easy to absorb, one page format for each…
ZBrush has unique features, and therefore a unique workflow, but it’s not as hard as you think, provided you don’t try to do things without learning the basics first…
This link will take you directly to where you can download the reference materials I mentioned… http://www.pixolator.com/zbc-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=2&t=000060
Thanks for your help Stonecutter
When I right click with the mouse on the object I see a cicrle appear on top of the object, is this the gyro tool? then when I drag on the gyro circle I cant get the object to rotate or move
Did you download those reference guides, L?
As to your question regarding the right -mouse button, why are you using the right button anyway?
Here’s what the GYRO looks like, and for instance in the case of the ‘Rotate’ function, you drag on the rings, or outside the GYRO, depending on the aim you wish to achieve…
All this basic info is covered in the tutorials that come with the program, as well as in the ‘Quicklinks’, and if you download those ‘Quick References’ and print them out, referring to them as you go, you’ll become comfortable with the interface pretty quickly…
I know when I get a new piece of software, I get into the ‘What’s this do…What’s this do’ mode, before I study the documentation, but ZBrush has a unique ‘style’, and trying to do things without a patient study of the basic tuts, it will take a lot longer to get comfortable, than if you take the time to watch the tuts, and use the ‘Quick Reference’ guides, trust me!
Don’t worry…It DOES get easier…
The GYRO is the interlocked rings…
When I right-click on an object, the quick menu comes up.
Anyway, if you press the “M” “S” or “R” button on the transform pallette and turn off the “edit object” (the one that looks like a square with one point pulled to the side) button in the transform pallette the gyro (which has intersecting circles at right angles to each other of a different color on each axis) will come up.
When in edit mode, you’ll get a single colored circle which represents your drawing cursor.
Thanx W/O…I do things without using any keyboard shortcuts, and never would have thought of those…(And thanks for saving a poor new user from my confused explanation!
)
I’ve been spending too much time in LightWave-Ville!
Also, be sure to run the tutorials which come with ZBrush. The second chapter of the Primers ZScript is about using the gyro. Unfortunately, it seems that many new users never check the Primers out…
