How do I make a regular 4 sided cube, with 8 vertices?

Hello everyone,

I have simple, probably stupid question. I’m very new to ZBrush and I’m going through the 4R7 tutorials at Digital Tutors, and there’s one video where he takes a cube, hits the ‘T’ key to go into edit mode, then goes to Geometry and presses the Divide button. His cube starts to turn into more of a sphere, which is what I want, but my cube doesn’t do that, it only subdivides it where it makes the edges really smooth.

It appears as though the author is starting with a different cube tool than what I have, his appears to be a very simple cube with 8 vertices only, unlike mine which is much more complex of a cube.

Any suggestions as to how I can get my cube to be like the author’s? I have a feeling it’s pretty simple, but I just can’t figure it out.

Thanks a bunch for any help.

Kind regards,

David

Hello,

I figured out a way to do it by just importing an .obj file from Blender that’s just a regular 4 sided cube with 8 vertices. However, if anyone knows how to do this within ZBrush please let me know.

Thanks,

David

Initialize: QCube:1x1x1 . If too many vert’s, reconstruct subdivision and delete higher levels.

Yes, as Doug says:

  1. Select the PolyMesh3D Star tool.
  2. Draw on the canvas and press ‘T’ to enter Edit mode if necessary.
  3. In the Tool>Initialize sub-palette, set the X Res, Y Res and Z Res sliders all to 1, then press the QCube button.

I appreciate your responses, very cool, thanks!
