How do I combine 2 existing polygroups into one?

Hello all,

Can someone please tell me how to combine 2 separate polygroups to combine into one?

Also, can I add/paint single polygons from one polygroup into another? not sure if its possible.

Thank you!

Hi @Samsam2020

You have to select the 2 polygroups and hide the rest then go to “Tool > Polygroups” and click “GroupVisible” button. See Working With Polygroups.
As to adding polygons, just hide what you don’t want to Polygroup and click GroupVisible button. See Mesh Visibility.

ZModeler also has tools to quickly reassign polygroups. This will work better on meshes with lower polycounts.

Select the ZModeler brush and set the action to Polygon > Polygroup > Polygroup island.

Click on the polygroup you want to “sample”, then press Shift to sample the existing polygroup assignment (pressing alt would assign a new random group).

Now every polygroup cluster you click on with the tool will be assigned the polygroup you just sampled.

Depending on the amount of reassignment you want to do, this can be a much faster way of doing it than juggling polygroup visibility over and over.

Hello ZBER2,

Thank you that worked!

Hello SPYNDEL,

When i select the Zmodeler brush > set action to Polygroup but I don’t see a Polygon Island? or maybe I am doing something wrong?

Hi @Samsam2020

With ZModeler brush selected, you have to hover the cursor over a Polygon then press Spacebar.
This might help to clear it up for you.

“Polygroup Island” is simply the target for the action. It works well in many cases. There may be a target selection more appropriate for your situation.

Thank you! Much appreciated! I was looking at the wrong menu, I simply right clicked.
