Hello my name is Stephon and my current goal with zbrush is to aid me in making 3d animations with characters that I sculpt. I am very new at both and I have only started with the sculpting part in zbrush. just as though there are many different ways to achieve a similar result in zbrush, there are many different paths people take when learning it,. How did you learn zbrush was it tutorials, classes, youtube videos ect? Also do you all believe personally that people can learn by video tutorials or do you think it is better to just learn by experience and focus on practicing within the software while watching video tutorials here and there?
You can learn anything by watching videos. The problem is, Zbrush is simply a tool. If you can’t sculpt or read forms then having a tool doesn’t really do anything for you. Learning how to use the tool is actually pretty quick, learning how to sculpt is the thing that most people struggle with.
Personally, I read the hell out of these forums and I practiced, a lot.
I agree I have never drawn anything personally before but I really wanna make my own 3d film. I feel zbrush will more than help me get there. This is the only thing I have done so far I did it yesterday I am still working on it http://bigboi972.deviantart.com/art/The-toy-that-could-lol-431091478
Not all people learn the same. I played with the 2.5D side a lot before trying to model. No matter your background, ZBrush is a different kind of animal to tame. This is an old, old post, links broken etc. , yet humorous and most principles still apply.

Everyone learns differently. For me it was initially a sub at Digital Tutors, topped up by many YouTube videos and forums. At the same time as practice, practice, practice. Once I got to the point I could find my way around ZBrush, I only needed YouTube and forums when I got stuck on something.
Having said all that, a year and a half later I am still learning. Like all things, the learning gets easier as we dig deeper into a program. I’ve been learning Max and Maya at the same time and I will admit that ZBrush is the most fun of all.
