Help me pose a character

I wan’t to pose this troll character but I truly suck at posing. How would you guys improve his pose? It’s not very strong from any angle. I want to render this guy in 3ds MAX from a good angle.

Awesome model, I dunno the pose looks ok to me, maybe you need someone more critical than me.

Great model! I think he needs the bottle of something “strong” in his hand

Try this.

Something like what mirrored posted would work well. You wouldn’t need to go that far necessarily, but he should definitely have a firm grip on the cane and it should be in front of him for support. Unless you’re going for rat pack style dance position, in which case I think you’re on the right track. A goblin crooner is a pretty interesting idea actually.

Thanks y’all!

Mirrored what’s that word in brackets? Fruit?

Yeah the cane could look better in front of him cause he’s so old.

nice look he had in his face.

Hi, yeah, that one says Fruit, just a quick idea, just something to hold. Make a good use for that good looking cane.

I think I found my pose

:+1: !

I think the pose needs to look like he really needs that cane, looks to much strong and healthy for me right now, but if you are happy, go with it.

I think the cane needs to be behind him because I want him to look like he’s approaching the camera.

THe line of gravity I believe should be near the cane. I think he should be leaning into the cane or make it look like he’s pushing the cane more. The cane in front would still look like he’s moving forward. Right now it seems like he is in a relaxed standing pose, almost like a statue. Maybe lowering the head so its near the center of the composition might push the image too. THese are just suggestions though, great model.

Nice character. Love his mimic.:+1: :+1: :+1:
Can you tell me how old he should look like?
Seeing this cane makes me think he´s well advanced in years…
If so I think IMHO you should add more wrinkles on the entire body and especially on the hands. That would let him look older… if this is what you´re going for?
Just an idea.

womball has a point…he looks young this way…head up high and a big smile.
I would go for a troll that has gravity against him: neck bend, head down, bent knees and if he smiles (i mean…he is a troll for crying out loud) it should be a smile that wishes you die young…

Thanks for all the replies!

I agree that he looks too youthful. I’m going to lower his head and bend his back a bit more. But the cane is staying behind him. Notice that his left leg and right arm are infront of him. It would ruin the dynamics of the pose if I moved the left hand and the cane in front of him.

About the smile: he’s a cunning troll. He’s planning bad plots in his head but he doesn’t want to show it. That’s why his expression isn’t too ominous. Although it isn’t exactly a happy smile either:D

Update!

That’s better. I still think he could go further over, like to the point where his nipples form a straight line with the ground. He does look older though. But I was thinking of ancient. With a curved back and he’s looking upward at the viewer. But you don’t have to go that way if you don’t want to. Watch the front foot, its intersecting the ground.

Are you keeping all of these poses as seperate ztls? That might help if you make a change and your not happy with it later on.

I have the pose stored in one layer. It’s nice to be able to turn the pose on and off. I don’t know how many people store poses in layers but it works for me:)
