Hi there. I’m kinda experimenting with Zbrush and decided to make a project that let me explore many of its tools. I’d like to first appologize for my lack of “method” here since I didn’t even sketch out the main idea before realizing I was already half way through. So… the main story is I have a friend that needs an animation done in which a hawk will be flying and all the spiff however… I have no hawk in my libraries… so i decided to make one and experiment in the process. Here are some pictures of the progress I hope it doesn’t become too obvious I’m just lazy
Closer view of the birds face… and as fun as it was to make I feel now cometh the hard part… how do I take this to 3d max w/o blowing up my computer in the process Oh well… It was still fun… hope y’all like it.
Have fun.
you could use displacement maps or normal maps, so you won’t loose detail… but you’ll need to do UV mapping
I thought of using displacement and bump maps to solve my problem but this “final version” has too many polys I’ll probly have to backtrack to one of the previous savefiles (they all have uv groups) and export thatone to max… unless i figgure out a way to lower its polys for the animation… i might have to slice him in pieces export them and optimize em then stick em back togeter… just thinking.
Looks neat so far, perhaps make the feathers seem more…featherish?
There’s a quick way to do it but its VERY destructive…
you can use MeshLab’s Cuadratic Edge Decimation to make your 1 million poly mesh into a 25k mesh wihtout loosing much of the detail, it also conserves sort of a texture, but i repeat, it’s very destructive…
I attach the before and after, as you can see, it doesn´t loss detail, but the mesh can´t be longer edited cuz it’s all triangles…
First mesh 1,500,000 poly…
Crushed mesh, 300,000 triangles, still much for animation
The second option is using topology tools in Zbrush, it might also give you some extra detail.
The advice i could give you is to make the feathers in another app, as a texture…it will look way better than doing them in zbrush
