Gohan

Hi Guys,

This is the latest project I am working on, still find it hard nailing down anatomy, especially hands and feet, but it’s progressing nonetheless.

I am attempting a hyperreal version of (cell games era)Gohan ( from dragonball z).

Any C&C is most welcome

Thanks for watching,

Martin

Hey there. Trying to turn an animated character to hyper realistic render/sculpt is quite a challenge. I’d definitely advice to take a look at human anatomy for reference. Right now I think the neck area is a bit problematic. I see what you are trying to do, but it’s a bit over the top sculpting. It needs to be subtle. Definitely need to go to lower res to get the overall proportion down first before going higher since there’s a lot of surface bumpiness. For the hair, you can use morph target guided function inside fibermesh menu to help get a specific shape you want. Store morph target, sculpt hair or insert mesh of a shape to your liking, switch morph target, turn on preview inside fibermesh menu, click on morph target guided.

Here are some work that you may want to look at and see if the artist have any tutorial on how to do certain things, such as render setting to achieve what you want.

Hi aerodisiac

Thanks for your advice and comments.
Those links to hyperreal versions were nice, I especially liked the Buzz Lightyear one.

The surfaceLumpiness is mostly due to the rake and clay build up brush, which I use on the lower levels to block out the form ( as you justly said in your advice)
I tend to go back and forth in the sculpting process( from high to low) so I can see how changes work out.

I have shortened the neck a bit and made the ears a tad smaller and defined the lips somewhat better in the last image.
I also have a lot of images of human anatomy so it’s not lack of having enough reference, it’s more the lack of skill that is the bottleneck here
If there is anything specific that stands out please do a drawover so I can have a look at it myself.

And finally…yes I know it’s hard to do a "real"version of something cartoony but it is also open to creativity since you can use your imagination to figure out how something looks in real life.

Again thanks for commenting, it’s much appreciated.
