Gille de Rais (Vincent Cassel)

hi there,

this is my long planned project. this is a WIP so be rude and harsh (ok, not so rude and not so harsh)

Used XSI for base modeling, then zbrush for textures, and details

Interesting start. The lips look glued together and the inner part of the ear could use more care. The structure is not very strong yet there. What’s on his head? Wig, hair, mop? Can’t quite tell. The piercing don’t look like they are actually penetrating the ear lobes.

Hello Jester,

you get my academy award for the skin look of your model!!! one of the best I ever saw! ;o)

perhaps some color tone correction on the lips that is all! (just add some magenta there! or remove yellow - it is blending too much in the skin - no real lips would ever do that!)

the hair looks bizarre (too thick overall) too even color no shin enough… ok it is fine cause he is wearing a wig mad of rope!

one major think to dramatically improve your image. work the light setting - the left part of the face AND the background is not working…

keep the good work!

helios

Thanks guys!

As I’ve stated it’s just a WIP, so there is still work to do. The hair is a very delicate part, because in this role Vincent had a really greasy, thick, clumped hair. The background is just a plain image without any attention to the details.

So I’ll finish the hair (tricky in XSI) and create a 3D background to have a better composition. Thanks for all comment!

I think this is going to look good when you’re finished. Reminds me of Vincent Cassel (i didnt even read the title until after i posted this).

Hello Jester

I drop some reference pictures that might inspire you if you wish to improve the light of your scene.

Gustave Courbet was sometime very plain in the composition (when doing portrait) but he did always a good light! We can learn some trick from this master painter !!!

Do some google or come to Paris - there is a show at the grand Palais right now! hurry it end the 28th january!

Jester,

That really does look like Vincent Cassel, he is one of my favorite actors.

regards,
Andrew

Thanks guys, especially the really inspirating pictures. We are going to Paris, but in March with my wife to celebrate our 15th anniversary of wedding. I’m afraid it’s a bit later to 28th January…
