Frustrated Modeller here, looking for guidence!

I have been using Zbrush for a a solid 5 days now, but Ican’t get things going my way. Im trying to do head modelling but am not producing any good results, then I tried to move onto the Zspheres to try and make bodies but things keep on moving on me or arnt doing what I want them to do. Am I delving into this program to fast? Or should I be doing some diff tutuorials?

If so what should I be working on then to get to know this program? Day by day im getting more and more to the hair pulling out stage  If anyone has some good beginner tutorials I would appriciate it. I did all the interface ones and such so I know my way around, but as for actually modelling, forget it, im lost :frowning:

Zbrush is quite different from other programs and hard to get used to in the first few days , but a real joy to work with later on. What you should do as a newbie is pickup as much information as you can from the Quick Links section.
Watching the interface tutorials is the smart thing to do but not quite enough to understand modeling in a few minutes. Usually there are also zscripts in your tutorial folder of head modeling tutorials , watch those carefully with Show Actions enabled in the Zscript panel. There a lot of different ways to model , you can learn by experimenting a lot and especially trying out every zscript you can get your hands on :stuck_out_tongue:
Ask anything you want on the forum , you’ll get a lot of answers usually.

but don’t give up , if you want to get your hopes up , look at a thread called “azerty’s gallery” , you can improve a lot in a couple of days.

Hey Boom, run the head model scripts …if yer on the demo…I would say read and practice…slow down and have fun is the best advice. We all started out with blobs or this and smears of that. Post your results and ask for 1 2 1 feedback…That way the community can better guide you on your journey. You are into this for five days. I am just now after a year starting to use the texture master as part of my regular fun. We all learn at different rates. I am one of the slow ones…but I have a blast learning this stuff. I have my days like everyone else and get frustrated over a piece, but hey that is part of the process. But examples of your problems will be an easier target to help you with. Try to have a little more patience with the program and with yourself. It takes time to develope your Zstyle. Reach for the stars and catch the moon…Look forward to seeing you produce something so we can get to helping you out. :+1: :+1: :+1:

Thanks for the tips!

I agree with both of you that taking my time and practicing is a very effective way to learn this. As for the head tutorials, if only they didnt go by so fast lol, then I could keep up on certain techniques they use throughout the sculpting, is there any way to slow it down?

As for posting my work, as soon as I can accomplish something that I dont chuck or delete I would glady post it, I just hate posting junk when people are posting such master peices, ie you! heh

I guess I’m one of the slow learners in this case, wish I found this program earlier to have learnt it by now to do some work for my school, it would really wow them!

Thanks again for your help guys, those quicklinks so far have answered osme of my problems so I should be on my way now with something to show you guys. Also im beginning to find that I need to do sketches first I cant just go in and work, its not working for me. Without any plan of attack, im just woundering around with nothing to show for it.

I never actually tried it , but in the zscript panel if you click the little icon to show more options , there is a slider called “replay delay” , increase the amount and maybe it’ll slow down the script , let me know if it helped.

Replay Delay is the key to slowing down the scripts. Also click on the Show Actions button. Basically you just need to practice. As you will find there is no “one” tool in ZBrush that will accomplish everything you wish to do. So you must learn a great number of them and learn how they interact and compliment one another. Knowing what a tool does and knowing the “feel” of the tool when working are two different things. Pick a tool and play with it. Don’t worry about making “something”. Just have fun. When you are comfortable with that tool move on to another one and so forth. Soon you will have a small repetoire of tools at your disposal that you are familiar with. That is the time to tackle a small project. Begin slow. Take your time. Play, play, play. You will learn the feel of the program and things will begin to “click”. Try all the zscript tutorials. Then watch them again.

Yup that worked great. If you turn up the delay it will show the movie as slow or fast as you want, wow this might be a life saver for me, now I can actually see what he does lol! Thanks for the help

Hi
Boom-Stick: Are you using v1.55?
For those who are using version 1.55 (this will soon include all ZBrush users–> see this thread ) you can use the new single-step ZScript mode.

This feature allows you to single-step a ZScript by simply moving your mouse/cursor to the upper-left corner of the screen. When you do so, the ZScript will display each command that is about to be executed in the top progress-bar and ZBrush will wait for your mouse click before executing the command and advancing to the next.
Hope this helps
