Thanks seb been looking for a good free engine for some time been playing with the unreal 3 engine and doom3 for awhile.

how did you set you material on your box?
I would like to import a character and set dif+spec+nromal on it, but I dont know how
Shaders are not suported on characters in this engine even though it is one of the better engines I have seen for the latest mapping tech.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Sauerbraten\packages\models\monster
on 64bit windows
C:\Program Files\Sauerbraten\packages\models\monster
is where all your monsters are located
notice all the skin are single shader skin.jpg
but it gets more interesting if you goto
C:\Program Files (x86)\Sauerbraten\packages\models\g_armour
and open up
md3.cgg in notepad
you will find this code
md3load tris.md3
md3skin mesh skin.jpg masks.jpg
mdlspec 300
mdlambient 30
So they use masks to tell the engine how much spec and ambient light the character gets.
Long story short what you are acustomed too in the game world is not going to be easy to match as far as importing characters with any real details unless you bake the details within the texture. (yuck)
This is the number 1 feature I have been looking for awhile (Character mapping engine for free) to show my students mapping on characters.
So far I always keep going back to the doom 3 engine. But there has got to be another engine that is easyier to use.

And heres a close up of the wall ingame . Surface shaders are too good to beleieve. Ya the normal map is harsh but the engine handles it well.

damn… to bad characters and objets dont have normalmaps…
It almost kill all the interest for me
