Figure turns black when pressing ZRemesher

Hi all! I’m incredibly new to Zbrush, so new that I’m still on a trial version that I just started. I have no idea how to navigate this site, so I’m sorry if I’m doing anything wrong.

I’ve done a few tests sculpts so far but today I decided to download a free base to see how that’d go, and so far so good, but there’s an issue - when I press ZRemesher the figure turns entirely black. What am I doing wrong to enable this?

I ask you to explain as simple as possible, as Zbrush is still very confusing to me. Screencaps/images are very helpful if you can!

As a side note, it seems like Dynmesh isn’t doing anything when pressed either… and when pressing Divide a few times, the sculpt gets weird “pinched” areas that look anything but smooth.

Thank you!

Hello!

First things first: Be sure to upgrade to the most up to date version of Zbrush. It’s free for registered users, and obsolete program versions are not officially supported.

As to your issue, you’ll notice that your color selector is set to black. By default, Zbrush will display the currently selected color and material on tools/subtools that have no active polypaint. What probably happened is that the mesh has active polypaint which is then removed by the ZRemeshing, so the model is just displaying your currently selected color.

Thank you for your answer, it helped! I haven’t been playing with polypaint just yet, so I had no idea that’s what had been causing it.

As for updating, is it possible to update with the trial version, then? I remember looking for a trial for Zbrush 2019 since I’d like to try it out before I buy it, but I thought since the trial is for 2018 I wasn’t available to update it through it. Silly of me.

Nope, that’s my fault, sorry. I didn’t realize the trial version was still stuck at ZB2018. Carry on!
