How do you create small details like Eyelashes in ZBrush?
I’ve tried the “snakehook” and some other brushes and things but none
got the result of small hair like lashes.
Tip anyone?
Best.
Hi KHAlexamnder.
Here’s one way…

Great! Thanks man!
I’ll look into it.
Best.
Why does this happen?.
I can’t find a “reset” for the ZSpheres.
Ok, so I missed a detail. Now it worked.
BUT! When I’m applying the lash it flies around as hel**, annoying!
Any tip of “controlling” the way you apply the tool?
Its also black, tried to rotate as the tutorial said but no effect.
Thanks.
Best.

Yep. The MeshInsert tool is a little annoying
I find the best method is to mask the entire mesh, (Ctrl click off-mesh)
then turn off ‘view mask’.
Now use the meshinset tool.
(Use a single direction stroke, if you pull back it does strange stuff to the
inserted mesh.)
Now because the inserted mesh is the only part not masked, you can
position it precisely with move/rotate/scale.
Having done so. clear the mask (Ctrl-Shift-A) and re-apply it to include
the added mesh (eyelash).
Repeat until done.
If you need to reposition a lash later, you will have to polygroup it to
be able to select it easily. It’s possible to do that as you add the lashes,
but makes the process even more complicated.
Best of luck!

I still just build them in Max/XSI and import them… to me it’s just one of those things that will always be faster in a traditional modeling application. That and you have more control over how much geometry you start with before it gets subdivided
Thanks a lot guys!
I’ll try again, I was thinking too of building them in the 3D application instead
but I’ll see. Would be great to achieve it in ZB.
Best and thanks.
Ps: Thanks for the links!
I’m not sure what your question is but I do know that the error that your showing in that picture is because you haven’t started your zsphear chain right. It make no sense but zspheres like to start with the first zpsheres, then with symmetry on, add a zspheres to the top and bottom. I think its a bug to have to start this way. After that, use then normally.
cheers

Thanks man! Yea, I noticed this and got it right this time
