Edit topology question (answered!)

Hi,

just looking into changes of the retopology-tools and i realised, that every line can be seen through the modell-even those on the back side of the modell. That makes it extreme hard to work, because, you are a) not seeing which line is in front and b) you may click on a point on the back of your modell, while working on the front.

Is there any way to make it work like in Z3 with faded out lines?

edit: hiding the points make z4 crash.

Here is an example picture

Dont have an answer for you, sorry. But I do have a question

Where the heck is the retopology menu?? I have been using zbrush for a while and literally have no idea how to do this.

hi,

1)select a ZSphere
2) then go to tool->rigging->select the mesh you want to retopo
3) go to tool->topology->click edit topology
4)activate symmetry an you can start adding points

there are some youtube-vids:

is transparency turned on on the skull mesh you’re re meshing?

Hi,

transparency was turned off. Even though it looks like it was on. i was able to get some controll over this effect by using the draw-options in the preferences, but the result wasnt very satisfying, because the new drawn-topo got lost under the surfice of the modell.

thanks to goZ i was able to finish the retopo in my other 3d-app, but i would love an improved retopo-tool in z4.

I used retopoplogy all the time in ZB3.2. I can’t even find the rigging menu header under tools in ZB4. I loaded an old subtool I had retopologised and it just showed the mesh. I did notice a new button which was switched on called ghost. But I couldn’t toggle the switch as it was grayed out.

I had a similar issue in 3.2 but only on thin sections of the subtool. The only way around it for me was to zoom right in, which wasn’t ideal.

I’ve decided to go off and read up on the changes before I get stuck in and get frustrated over things I hope do work but differently to 3.2/3.5. Because if retopology is broken I’m stuffed.

Sorry I couldn’t help, but if you work it out give us a shout. Of course I’ll do the same.

Happy ZBrushing4.

I’ve just realized how serious this is. Due to me flustering in the new interface of ZB4 I forgot to load a ZSphere, that’s why I couldn’t see Rigging.

So when I managed to begin retopology I realized that it is broken. As mentioned I had a similar issue in ZB3.2 and even created a post on the issue:
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=83544.

I’m really hoping that there is a button somewhere that will sort this issue out. But for now I won’t be able to use retopology, which makes it hard for me to use ZB4.

What a bummer!

Yeah,

with shadowbox at hand a fast and efficient way to retopo is a must.

I hope Pixo will surprise us with some sort of Topomaster as they did with Uvmaster.

hey there, have you tried appending a zsphere as a subtool to the mesh you want to retopoligize and then go to then go to the topoligize tap, maybe that could work. I think heres a tutorial where it is explained better http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Joseph_Drust#Using_Appended_ZSpheres_to_Retopologize

Thanks Grfx, that will work just great, however it seems to make the Rigging Menu redundant.

Thanks for the pointer though. I was seriously wondering how I could continue using ZB4 to complete a workflow from beginning to end.

You’re a life saver.
Thanks again…

Mister grfx!

You saved my day! I tried it and it seems to work as it should!

A big thank you!

Go into Preferences/Draw and change the Front Opacity Slider value to 1. Makes it work like it used to.:+1:

Thanks Extra Dimensional.

That solves the problem completely. You’re a star.

Well done for spotting it and most of all thanks for sharing your find.

Not a bad fix…this used to happen to me alot…especially with me retopologising my models

Thank you Grfx and Extra Dimensional! These are great suggestions, and they introduce some new possibilities.

Cool skull sculpt elektro!

So I too came across this problem and a guy at work figured it out! You can change the opacity of the object if you go to Preferences > Draw > and turn Back Opacity down to 0.

Now you can continue to retopo the way you’ve always done it! That other way seems kind of cool, but annoying if you want to project your details onto the new mesh… yeah yeah you can hit project all, but that has its fun little bugs too.

Happy Retopoing =D

Thanks for the help, i also had the same problem and with that solve it in some way, but if i play with the opacity problems you don’t see the back topology, but still the mouse snaps into the back points, and some topology lines in front are very hard to see (well, imposible), anyone have some solution? thanks to all!

I’ve figured out a setting that allows you to see the front topology while having the back topology dimmed significantly. Under Prefrences>Draw set the Front Opacity to about .9 and the back opacity to .01(not zero!)
It isn’t perfect, some of the front topology lines also dim out, but it does help you avoid clicking on back lines.

Hope this helps further.

Hello,

Have you tried this?

http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Joseph_Drust#Using_Appended_ZSpheres_to_Retopologize

It works pretty well.

Thanks to both, later i will try both methots lather at home!
