Dumbo Octopus

Hello everyone!
this is a 3d model of the underwater creature Dumbo Octopus.

First I saw it in a “Blue Planet” movie and being impressed by its appearance I decided to make a 3d model of it. This octopus looks like unrealistic creature - small, colorful and cute, seems like it is created to be a star of a cartoon.

In this project my goal was practicing and improving my skills in Zbrush, UV unwrapping, Retopology and Vray.

Amazing! results you achieved on translucency are great, also on those tiny floating particles

Thank you very much! I appreciate your appraisal, this give the courage to do do my best.

Beautiful! …ok, now I’m inspired to get back to Deep Sea sculpting.
REFERENCE (in case you’ve not seen this}

perhaps you’ll share some of your awesome translucency techniques?

Thank you! :slight_smile: I am glad you like the Octopus.

As for the translucency, this is Vray and a simple grayscale opacity map.
It was used for the ears mostly, the rest of the body is the Vray SSS material.
No special secrets, just many attempts to find the needed level of translucency.
