Looking for a little C & C on the texture for one of my demo reel pieces.
Would love any opinions or comments good or bad.
Thanks in advance!

Hey there this is probably my first post so take it like a grain of salt.
Anyway the base for the texture looks pretty solid, and thats both good and bad; its good because its given you a decent foundation but at the same time the colors are far to saturated i would say. Look at the leather wings for example, they seem matted green which makes them look far too opaque. I’d suggest maybe adding a couple under tones through out your textures especially in the wing area since light is more likely to travel through them and drastically change the way they look.
Take a look at scott spencer’s video tutorial on how he paints skin, should give you a decent idea on how flesh tones vary on different parts of the body. While this might not be super vital for the scale work it should definitly improve the way your wings look.

I’d also recommend maybe moving away from just green, maybe hit the dragon’s under belly with a like a tan color to help distinquish his form from odd angles.
Well thats my 2 bits, so happy pixoling
although i do agree that you should make the menbrain of the wings a little less solid.
would you mind if i used these pics as a ref for a dragon im making for a game? making a model of a dragon for the elderscrolls community to use, its impossible to find a free dragon for moders to use… maybe because they are a bit harder to make…
Hey, nice dragon, head reminds me a little of Godzilla. anyways texture, the Scott Spencer vid is nice, tho i am hoping he will release the full one or something similar. I just modelled a dragon to and textured http://xsi-apprentice.deviantart.com/ where you can see my wip and tests.
I basically did something similar as Scott did in the vid. I got a base tone, then started building up in layer diferent colours and alphas, eg veins on his wings etc, then slowly started building up using the spray brush etc. in the final stages i used the mask by cavity feature, and played with that, and also played using the cavity settings with the standard brush, (height etc).
I think your height/cavity is too strong as well as your base tone is too saturated, similar to the crit i got when doing mine, hehe, i think maybe blend some of the height with the base or blurring the alpha a bit so that way the edges arent so hard, and maybe also decrease the opacity of the colour so it builds up a bit more.
Sweet start tho, as im a dragon fan, and also need more work doing on mine, i will def be watching
Sorry guys if it takes me a while to get back to your posts. Work keeps me away from computers for extended periods of time. I really do appreciate the opinions and C&C though keep em coming
Zeth09 - Thanks for the advice I will take a look at the vids when i get a sec. I agree needs more color variation on the under belly, I also love the idea of playing with the colors on the wing membrane to give it a slightley more transparent appearance.
Nelothi - Go ahead by all means With my blessing. If you are still interested send me a message and I will see what else I can send your way reference wise. A great source of referance is Mcfarlens various dragons, they are simply amazing. http://images.google.ca/images?hl=en&resnum=0&q=Macfarlane%20dragons&oe=UTF-8&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi
Xsi -Apprentice - Checked out your stuff looks really nice! Keep at it, your dragon’s kicking ass. I really like the wings seems like you have the membrane transperance idea rolling smoothly. I will see what I can pull when I play around with the tones and base colors, and throw something up in the next few days hopefully
Once again thanks for the C&C guys
