Disgusting Fat man and Batman

Got some new pieces I’ve been working on. The first one is the villain for my thesis. He’s just a really fat man that controls giant mechs through his neuro-mechanical, bio-tech connections or whatever.

I was just focusing mostly on the look. this is his concept art.

Like the fat man, reminds me of that dune-villain. Your drawing skillz are impressing. For grat zbrush modeling you should realy learn how to use some more of that great brushes…Good Start here

I see you said you go to ringling, I am a soon to be 11th grader in highschool looking at Ringling as a animation/CG college I want to go to. I was wondering what your thesis was for? (like what major or class).

Also, what kind of work did you submit to get in? For the animation program i’ve heard and been working on life drawings of people in my model class outside of school.

Thanks so much, and tell me anything about ringling and dont be bias!

Glad to hear you’re interested in ringling. I can honestly say it’s one of the top schools you’ll find for Computer Animation, I have to warn you though, for it to be one of the best it also means it’s the hardest thing you’ll ever do. But it is worth it, companies like Pixar, Blue Sky, Dreamworks and all the big companies come to recruit all the time and keep a close eye on the students and even participate in some of the critiques.

I was in illustration though, but half my friends were CA’s so was able to see how hard they worked. My thesis was creating a video game property, so I could use my traditional and digital art skills along with zbrush to create some images.

For work I submitted and what you need to submit, you’re on the right path with figure drawings. They really want to see that you have a decent foundation of basic drawing skills. Just have work that shows you understand shading, proportion, anatomy, perspective. Things like that. I just submitted a bunch of random drawings I had from drawing from magazines and nude photos from online. First year is mostly foundation classes anyways.

But good luck on submitting. It’s a great school that will work you very hard, but you will also learn everything you need. It’s only been maybe 2 months since I graduated and all my CA friends either have jobs or internship at big companies they wanted to work for, so it is worth it.

Thanks to much for your response on Ringling, last thing, I am also looking at Calarts. I am worried that Ringling is so far away from Cal. (where are the big companies are), that they dont have as much contact with Pixar/Dreamworks as Calarts does. Seems Calarts students have Pixar people there 24/7 :).

Any of your friends get Pixar/Dreamworks jobs/internships thats the kinda work id love to get!

Thanks so much!

hey looking good so far! your batman is definately grade A. did wanna say tho the flesh part of the fatman is really nice looking. just wodering if the metallic areas were the time constraints part? Just a thought, have you considered creating your own alphas and applying them with projection master? I will say tho it has great potential! still nice work tho!

Calarts is also an amazing school. They do have more traditional animation than ringling, ringling focuses more on maya and 3D animation. I do have alot of friends that managed to get jobs at Pixar, nickelodeon, reelFX, disney and blue sky. Even though we’re in FL all the companies come visit us all the time.

loki_22 - Thanks, and yeah the metallic parts were definitely where i ran out of time. Another big part of it was also i was working on a mac so I had to deal with 3.2.

I never really used projection master, But i have played with making and using my own alphas.

I cant wait till I upgrade my PC so i can start using 3.5 for real.

check out the video tut on classroom for projection master. its rather invaluable knowledge. the guns that i have in my sketchbook are done with it and its the best for mechanical models or at least the fun stuff in’em. one other thing about PM is that you get much cleaner detail with it once you figure out how to position things. keep up the good work and cheers!
