DID YOU KNOW THAT for ZBrush 4

  1. If your head is right in the center and is symmetrical place the first eyeball into its (Use the right not left) socket and when you have it in the right place and the right size hit the “Mirror and Weld” button in the Subtool pallet. If you run into trouble look at the little X,Y and Z icons in the Mirror and Weld button, your model may be oriented differently.

  2. In theory if you have created a menu you should be able to drag it anywhere you like, I’m not good at this but if that does not work look in this thread and watch the movie:

And on that note, I think I will watch it again, I seem to forget how to do this stuff!!!

Cheers!

Im correcting the link above as well.

Thanks alot guys that was helpful!

I thought i had to create a menu, fill it with brushes and then dock it to the bottom instead of just draging the brushes where i want them.

New to zBrush but experienced with Max and Rhino. I would like learn zBrush better by modeling from model sheets with so many online to pick from. For example : http://animationarchive.net/Model%20Sheets/

I have been building the basic form and then trying to use Spotlight to do the rest. I just dont have the ability to look at a sheet and then do it freehand and am used to being able to use image planes for reference.

What is the best flow, style, method, tools or any suggestions on how to go about doing this correctly without ending up with a mess of misaligned features.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions in helping me learn zBrush.

you can use the Mirror function in SubTool Master to do this. In fact the great part about this is if you have an eye with subdivision levels this will be kept on the other eye.

Have you tried this?

Paul

Hello

The best plug-in to use for what you want is the ImagePlane. You can store different views with multiple different views. You can find the plug-in under the Texture Palette. However, there was an issue with the original version that came with the install of ZBrush4R2. You will need to download the new one at the http://www.pixologic.com/zbrush/downloadcenter/zplugins/.

Make sure to delete the old ImagePlane plug-in from the ZBrush4R2/ZStartUp/Zplugs before installing the two new files from the download.

Once this is installed there is a great Help button for this plug-in. If this does not work let me know and maybe I can find a video for you.

Paul

No i havent tried that but will try it today and see how it goes.

THANK YOU!!

Now this looks like more of what i am accustomed to and also one i tried before but was unable to make it work. Thanks for the info, will remove the old one, install the new one and see if that will work.

Thank you for the info.

Hey Paul hows it goin? Thx for the Vids.

I was watching the Custom Interface Video and I go to add the new menu to my Right Click and I get “Hotkey Note Operation Canceled” I’m using ZB4R2. Any ideas?

Thx

Hello

Are you trying to make right click the short-cut to the custom menu you are making? You can’t do that in ZBrush since that is hotkey to the quick menu and the right-click navigation.

Is this what you are trying to do?

Paul

Hey Paul, thx for the reply.

Yeah, that is what I was trying to do. I thought that is what you did to make the custom right click.

I assigned my own hotkey to the menu that I made. To do that you need to exit Custom UI once your done creating the custom menu. Then hold Ctrl+Alt and click on the custom menu you made. You will now be able to assign any hotkey to pull up your custom menu.

Hope this helped.

Paul

OK, I got it.

Thx, Paul

After a few models and now being MUCH more productive in zBrush i just wanted to say thank you.

I still need to learn how to start from a sphere but the ImagePlane is really helping me be productive while i learn.

Just wanted to say thank you very much…

Hi Paul,

Just discovered your great thread here and wonder, if this might be the right location for asking a typical newbie question:

Is there a certain trick to get primitives and stuff into an exsisting dynamesh with the insertbrush straight and centered to the worldaxsis?

I would LOVE to know this too, I have tried a lot of stuff, obviously the shift key does not work… grrr…

Hey Jake

Ya you can do something like that. Change the picker orientation. Click right in the middle of the icon that looks like an arrow. here is a picture of it what I did. The big orange box. This will tell ZBrush to use the camera orientation for drawing out the Insert brushes. Since I am keeping the arrow looking straight ahead ZBrush will always draw out the shape along that same axis. Of course you can move this arrow in any direction so you can have shapes drawn out along any axis.

Let me know if this helps.

Thank you Paul,

That helped a lot!

That is very interesting, its not what I was after but its still very cool.

Thanks!

Paul, may I put another followup newbiequestion here:

Can I cut a dynamesh into two parts and create two subtools from them
and how could this be achieved?

Thank you for helping me.
