Curve Brush Bend Problem -

Hello!
How do I keep the size big, but make increase the smoothness of the curve?

I’m trying to create my own Curve Brush set, and I’m having trouble with controlling the size and smoothness. The defaults don’t bend smooth enough, but I can’t find a way make it smoother without also shrinking the entire size of the brush. Even things like reducing curve steps also seem to reduce the size of the brush. Here is a screenshot of my problem:

Hi @RoyalSkies,

Adjusting the Brush > Modifiers> Curve Res or Stroke> Curve > Curve Step are both ways to adjust the smoothness or resolution of the curve.

However, I think your issue here is probably caused by your brush construction. It looks like you have long, thin repeating sections in your brush geometry, and that is going to limit how easily the curve can wrap to strongly curved surfaces. The repeating sections must be drawn end to end, so you don’t want any more length than you absolutely need to establish the repeating element. Try to picture how easy it would be to wrap a chain made of of small circular links, vs a chain of golf clubs laid end to end (I really need to come up with a better analogy  )

Since you don’t have any detail on the repeating section of your belt, you really only need minimal geometry there, length-wise. A cubical repeating section would be better than a long rectangular box, and a section that is even shorter than it is wide would be better still. This will allow the curve stroke to be much more responsive to curved surfaces, and will provide more intuitive results when attempting to adjust the curve res independently of the mesh size.

Good luck! :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello Spyndel!

Thank you so much for helping solve my solution - The problem actually turned out to be slight different - It was related to the brush tri part construction, but had more to do with position than the size of the middle part - It turns out the middle part of your tri-brush is not allowed to overlap the position of the top or bottom parts!

Here’s a video demonstrating the fix in case you guys have people in the future with the same problem!
