Hello Everyone.
This model of Stephen King’s Crimson King is based on Jae Lee’s concept from the Gunslinger Born Graphic novel. I tried to stay true to the original, but added the face to the overall spider-form that was the basis for the side view of this model. Also, in the original, it isn’t too clear how the Crimson King is ‘wearing’ the everpresent cloak that is part of the character, so mine is kind of emanating from his back a little. Looking forward to comments.

From what I remember he was more human than spider, but I do like your disgusting version better.
Shaping up great!
wow this is pretty sweet, good work.
Um, wow! He’s looking great so far! Not sure I like the cape ‘growing’ out of his back…not quite sure how you’d do it otherwise though…
Oddly enough, I just started my Roland model the other day and posted him here on zbc: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?t=80920&page=4
Not meaning to hijack, just thought you might be interested.
I will definately be keeping an eye on this one. Keep it up!

AWESOME ! that Matcap is that ?
I solved my issue with the model I couldn’t open. It was really weird, everytime I started Zbrush, I would get a ‘flash’ of that model, as if Zbrush was trying to include it as part of the startup. I had saved a startup document file for my background and resolution a few sessions ago, and so figured I would try to remove that from the Zbrush folder. To my surprise, I was able to load the model where previously Zbrush was crashing and telling me that it could not load the model due to ‘insufficient system memory’. Anyway, I’m happy, but I figured I would mention it here in case anyone else ran into this kind of thing.
m0delista: the matcap is a custom one I made using the method Neville Page outlines at theGnomon Workshop. I rendered with that matcap, and then several with some of the other ‘sketch’ materials found in Zbrush, and composited them with Photoshop.
great work on the cowboy man! Love the cloth and pose. Is perspective on in that last print?
The Crimson King sculpt is just awesome. 5 stars.
Really like the stylization - I would also like to know what matcap this is - very graphic novel-like.

The new pose is much better. The first one you posted must have had some crazy perspective that made his fore arms look impossibly short.
I do like the style your going with for Roland. Reminds me more of the Jae Lee Roland from the comcs.
Are you going to paint/texture him?
Keep it up!
Cool work going on here. I’ve read the whole Dark Tower series and often thought about making something from it. I like your take on Roland and the Crimson King is looking very good also. Keep it up
that front angle of the “crimson king” is interesting
Ryan: thanks for the comments. Now that you mention it, I see what you mean about the first pose. I am away right now and can’t check on my model, but I think what you are seeing is definitely a combination of the perspective as well as too much ‘bulk’ in the coat folds on the inside of where the elbow bends. I missed it, so I really appreciate you pointing that out. I’ll check on it when I get back. As far as the style, yes, I was inspired by the graphic novel versions of Roland. I do want to paint him, and will probably try to play with the effect I have been utilizing to see if I can get a unique ‘illustration’ like end result.
Captain Sensible and Morph Division: Thank you!
