I’m very new to zbrush and currently just learning the ropes. I just wanted to ask if anyone knew of an easy way to create fish scales?

I’d use the Stencil feature. http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Stencil_Palette
Find a good alpha that looks like scales (preferably seamless so you can use the alpha repeat feature) and then make it into a stencil. Be sure “wrap mode” is on so that the stencil conforms to general curve of the surface.
