Creating a layer or morph target from a separate mesh

Hey, I kind of goofed and am wondering if there’s a way to retroactively make a layer or morph target. I made a variation of my sculpt and saved it as a separate ztool. Is there anyway to apply this separate model as a layer or morph target on the original model. Vertex count and order should still be identical, I was just moving shapes around. Unfortunately I didn’t save the undo history with either file.

I see the documentation mentions importing blend shapes from Maya. Would there be a way to do this through blender?

Brush at bottom of page might do what you wish, you’ll need both subtools. Would perhaps have been better if you’d followed recommended procedure first time around. HTH

The Zproject Brush can be tricky to understand it’s behaviour.
Here’s a tutorial, and an accompanying .pdf which will help greatly >

You could also Reproject from one model to the other on to a new layer using Project all.

To do;
Append your edited model to your subtool list. Have only this and your original model visible.
With your original model selected (make sure it’s at the highest subdiv level), turn on record on a new layer.
Go down to Project, and press Project All.
Depending on how far you’ve pushed the second model’s geometry, you might need to up the distance slider (Dist) to get perfect results.
Then just turn off record, and hide or delete the second model.
You could store a morph Target while the layer is still active at this point, and delete the layer, which ever you’d like :]

Cheers ~

If the point order and count are the same all you need to do is import as an OBJ or GoZ file. For example:

  1. Select the model you want to use for your layer, press Tool:Export and select GoZ Complete Binary from the drop down list.
  2. Switch to the model you want to create the layer for, create a new layer and with recording on import (Tool:Import) the file you exported at (1).

Cool, I never knew this, thanks Marcus, handy one :+1:

Marcus, that sounds exactly like what I need, will try it a bit later. Thanks a lot for all the replies.

Edit: Worked perfectly, great trick to know.

Great!
