convert high poly model to low poly model

hi ,

Challenge : To convert very detailed high poly model developed in Z brush with 1.32 Million points .

1 .This model is not imported into Maya becuase maya can not afford that big model.
2 . There is no Lower Sub division available for this model
3 . Reconstruct subdivision does nothing/ has no effect on model

Now how can you convert this model into low res model to get its workig in Maya

rebuild a low poly mesh using the retopology tools?

3 . Reconstruct subdivision does nothing/ has no effect on model

Make sure your UV is enabled to reconstruct your model

True. However, not all meshes can be reconstructed. In order for reconstruction to work, the current subdivision level must fit certain criteria:


  • It can’t have triangles.
  • Its polygon count must be evenly divisible by four.
  • It must have a compatible polygon distribution.
That last part is the trickiest one. You see, Reconstruct is basically reverse engineering lower subdivision levels. This means that the resulting mesh will be something that would be capable of being subdivided to become the current mesh. That means that the polygons must all be in the right place. ZBrush has some sophisticated routines to accomplish the reconstruction wherever possible, but some meshes just aren’t compatible.

for ur fast responce,but i require some help now.
i am describing you what i have done.

I am having a bulb mesh in 3DS Max format so i exported it to .OBJ format .
I can load the bulb mesh now but according to one doc i cant locate the
rigging option in the subtool.

moreover while manipulating with the division option in Geometry the notice is comming that it will only increase the poly count,but not decrease.
please sujjest me some other way

More over i want to know wheather there are any othe s/w than ZBrush which can convert high poly mesh to low poly mesh
