yea… another sketch !!!
cool are ya gonna use Z to matte paint this fella?
Looks good!
Looking forward to see the process
Color sketch (using ZBrush).
Aminuts:Yeah, this is going to be a ZB painting, concept for a matte painting.

cool should be fun to watch your progress and learn something along the way!
Z on!!
yay, very good Myth

First layers of rough paint (using ZB 2D brushes).

I agree, Myth, to use “adjustment” after best-rendering is very important and absolutely necessary
This “smal” utility is one of the best inside of zB (why can we not free rotate alphas?
)
Keep going, mate
Final painting. I used 2D zbrushes and particulary the colorize, saturation and highlighter brushes. The fish are painted in PS. This technique of making concept art was more streamlined than the one in my tutorial, and the image took about 6 hours from start to finish.

So nice. For some reason concept art catches my eye and pleases me much more than finished 3D images. I guess it must be that the artistic control is closer to the canvas, so to say, rather than tweaking render parameters and vertices. Concept art like this always seems more alive. Except, of course, when it is MY concept art;)
Great job, you can really see the difference the 2D brushes make. Thanks for the inspiration.
Yeah!!!
( translation: I like it!!!)
Thats sweet looking Myth. Kinda reminds of John Berkeleys sci fi paintings but in your style. excellent
These are so cool! What a treat, thank you!
I love the noise/water breakup in the upper areas, reminds me of the water that was constantly falling in the engine room scenes in the film Alien!
Nice mood!

Very nice job you did here! Your perspective and composition speaks by it self. I would like to learn this kind of technique of matte painting. I guess it’s pretty much the same when painting on a canvas using oils, which you build up your colors in layers. I think it’s kinda the same thing here, but what confuses me sometimes is which method to use; using opasity, or using darker or lighter colors? Also sometimes when painting in digital sometimes I dont know when a layer it’s pretty much done and step up to the next one.
Ok man keep it up!

Its great to see this sort of work on the forum…and i must agree with TVeyes a big scene full of 3D objects often looks stiff, no dynamics…2D art looks more alive and the elements more in harmony, and the “unfinished” sketchy look is in the end more pleasing to the eye then all the “dead” perfection that you see in full 3D-work !

Thank you. Here is another one:
