Hey, thanks for bringing that to our attention mate! :grimacing:

I’ve been trying to find a simplified render app (cos I’m crap at techie stuff!) so this is ideal for me

:+1: :+1: :+1:

Just what is Bryce anyway? It’s a general renderer? A terrain generator? Something else?

more terrain but it can render

This is Not an inconsequential offer although I suspect it is being done so Daz can sell you products that can be used in Bryce. You can do many things with it. Its been awhile but the last image I did in bryce was this one and its one very Fine program for terrains etc. The rendering has its own quality to it. Thanks for the heads up Bicc. I am sure there are many folks on this forum that will love it. PS For an idea of idea of what it can do with terrain. Not my best but I had fun with it at the time http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?p=201726#post201726

Hey tartan this this is nice - will downlaod it:D

Bryce… I thought the last 5 1/4 inch floppy disk of it was already sold a few years ago  .
Lemo

Spoken like a true Vue man Lemo LOL. I am like Bicc in that I have moved on also and am now learning Vue, which quite frankly is a piece o cake. There are still a few things that Bryce (even 5) is better at but I see no dedication to the program like the people at Vue have. Bryce is Still a viable program but the support given to it is only just enough so that the folks at Daz have an avenue of selling pre made items. That being said, for people who have no idea how to set up scenes in true 3d, Bryce is a damn good way to start and at the moment Very easy on the old wallet. Like Bicc said, Free is Free

5 1/4 floppy my butt LOL If I had permission I would show you Bryce images by other people that match the best. If you want to see a True Bryce master go to 3d Commune and look up Meski. Much Much better than my pitiful attempts. Oh well /e drags out his Vue Infinite and starts playing in it:D

It looks as though DAZ plan to develop Bryce. The free offer is obviously to enlarge the user base. The blurb says that Bryce 6 will only be available as an upgrade to registered users of versions 5 and 5.5.

It’s interesting that they seem intent on that, given that Carrara covers much of the same ground (and version 6.0 of that is being beta-tested I believe).

Ok, I was wrong. I checked. It was not 5 1/4 inch FD’s. Those were 8".
Lemo

PS:Bryce cannot export many of the things you model to other packages… It should be free :sunglasses: by now.

Wow Marcus, I am and Will be very surprised if daz does in fact develop it more. Bryce has Always been a favorite of mine. I certainly hope you are correct. It helped lay the foundation for my learning of 3d and Iwas sad to se that Daz had purchased it as I am prejudiced against them and the ways they try and entice people to buy their products using various ploys. Maybe I shouldnt hold onto that prejudice. If they issue a Bryce 6 I will go out of my way to get it. Its a very powerful little tool especially because of its abilities at texture in both Procedural and outside capabilities. Also the volume lights that are able to be set up in Bryce are very cool. man I hope you are right.

Lemo I Thought you were kidding as was I when I said my Butt. LOL I thought you knew the truth of it but were just saying that to kid me hehe. You are very correct. There have been many objects such as castles and buildings I have created in Bryce that i wasnt able to export out for use in other programs. The only objects generated in Bryce that are exportable are lattices and terrains. Objects imported into Bryce can be exported back out also. But that doesnt help very much when you build using Bryce primitives. A great example of objects built in bryce would be the aforementioned bryce master Meski with the barn I used in http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthrea…1726#post201726 You havent seen the insides yet.

Meanwhile like others I will continue to use Vue Infinite but dont expect me to say that I Wont be happy if they do indeed upgrade to a 6. I hope it matches its predecessors 2, 3, 4 and yes 5 in incremental quality. Its one of the old tools that can still be used over and over again with a respected history. And I kid you not. It does things Vue cant do as well, even now :+1:

well I downloaded bryce but it will take me some time to learn it - I was not able to even quit it :o :o Had to press alt+f4

Take your mouse and direct it toward the upper right hand
top part of the screen.
Hidden menu(s) will appear.
Took me three days to find this out!!!

Thanks

thnx for the tip…lol…glad to see I have not been the only alt F4 person out there…

Vue versus Bryce - this will come up (if it is not already).

So:
Bryce has its very own way of rendering things. Not the speed or any other detail, but Bryce does some very clean, crisp and “cold” renders, all of its own. Ok, you can try and change that, but I think this - unwanted? - feature can be used in addition to Vue.
Because Vue does the opposite: without much adjustments from the user, Vue renders more moody scenes, soft and warm lights.
So from this point of view it is certainly “nice” to have both of them around.

Ok, Bryce has got no eco system, and some of the best light simulations are only to be found in Vue right now. This might change with Bryce 6.

What both proggies are bringing along: each has a high class material editor. Both of them capable enough to maybe sell them as standalones.

The area where Bryce is really shining: the connection to DAZStudio is the best way to get anything from Poser or DAZ right into any scene by the flip of a switch! Nothing has to be altered/adjusted (importing or loading Posettes into Vue can be real cumbersome, just to get the materials looking right afterwards).

There is more, but in the end I would really give Bryce a try - using both - Vue and/or Bryce - is not against the law, after all.

arghhh

I feel old when all the 3d apps I bought into before they were version1.0 start to be given away for free.

I have to say this particular deal pisses me off. I was told that in order to upgrade to 5.5 I would have to also buy all this other bs daz crap I didn’t want. I’ve owned the program since day 1 and I have to buy crap I don’t want in order to upgrade…sorry.

the fact that they are now giving it away says to me…that alot of other folks musta felt the same way.

correct me if I read it wrong but it seemed to me that what i read was that legacy owners and 5.5 upgrade owners were NOT entitled to an upgrade price to 6.0…only downloaders of this free version were.

this tells me also that…i didn’t lose anything by not upgrading…and it musta been so bad that they need to rewrite it from 5.0 up.

what a scam. they have alot of work to do to bring it to this century…however having said that…it is a pretty good program for a beginner to cut their teeth on. and for free…a pretty good renderer once ya figure it out.

god i feel old.

@aminuts

… reading your post I checked my papers, and: you’re right, “old” is a mild description of what is said there:)!
Got Bryce from day 1, felt bad seeing Corel misusing it, felt glad seeing DAZ getting it.
Now for the upgrade to version 6: I do not know about you, but greed made me member at DAZ (all branches: platinum, artzone), and there is a good chance that customers will get “special deals” concerning these memberships.
Asked at DAZ, might be an answer soon.

For me, well: I’ll get Bryce6. Maybe just because of nostalgic feelings, still got the disks from wayyyyy back when (all things had been better, Summers warmer … you know this stuff;)).
