Hey everyone,

Model I sculpted out of the generic head tool. Beginning steps in a work in progress, trying to find a suitable workflow to put zbrush in our pipeline. Pupils and iris’ pasted on in photoshop to make sure dimensions are ok. Critiques welcome!

best, mike

Hi Mike,
Looking good, maybe the mouth looks a bit small. The space between the upper lip and the nose is too big compared with the space from the lower lip and the chin. It looks a little bit unbalanced in my opinion. Also the nose seems a bit flat at the bottom, at least from that front view. Keep it on!

thanks Danko, looking closer you are absolutely right. Am going to go over and try to balance out the head- mike

My first time using the retopo tool in zbrush, having some problems but making progress. pretty messy hopefully i can get it cleaned up. any tips or suggestions please welcome. dan_06.jpg

Hi everyone,

completed my first attempt at retopology. A little messy, but happy with my first result. I wish I had used these tools sooner but am glad progress is being made.

Also, I sculpted his head in with perspective on. Is this method typically used, or is it traditional to model with perspective off?

Tips and critiques greatly appreciated. Best, mike

hi everyone,

a quick texture to try out sss shader settings… making progress, but nowhere near the final result i am looking for. If anyone has any tips or knows of any good tutorials let me know! Also the eyes are from a jpg online, I am going to change them once I get the ball rolling.

nice work,

the retopo tools can be a pain but there is a good tutorial by someone on this forum, check the tutorials board, im sorry but i cant remember who did it but will see if i can find and post a link

the mental ray sss is also a difficult one, not only does the result depend on the shader settings but also the textures you paint and use also,

not sure what software your rendering with but gnomonology has a great 3 part breakdown on that particular shader and i think its about 12 bucks. other than that there will be alot of info in the help of your particular 3d software.

Thanks Dave,

I am definately going to grab that gnomon tutorial, thanks for the tips. I am using mental ray with maya, and am trying to get a better understanding of all the sss settings.

best,
mike
