Broken UVs, how do I fix. (Maya 2008)

Hi all,

I’m exporting OBJs from Maya 2008 into ZBrush 3.1 and back again. Only, when I bring the OBJs back from Zbrush back into Maya, the UVs are wrecked. They look ok, as in they have the same shape as before, but every UV is an indivual piece and it’s all mixed around. As in, if you turn the borders on in Maya’s UV Texture Editor, the whole map comes up borders.

These are the things I’ve done so far:

  1. Made sure the File Type Specific Options/Create multiple objects box is ticked off. I’ve also tried this in Maya 8.5 and it still comes up with broken UVs.

  2. I’ve exported from Maya then imported back into Maya without taking it into another program and the UV’s come back fine.

  3. I’ve exported it from Maya, worked on the mesh in Headus UVLayout and brought it back into Maya and the UV’s are fine.

  4. I’ve brought the mesh into ZBrush, not touched it other than to bring it into Zbrush, exported the OBJ and brought it Maya and the UV’s are broken.

Is there a box I’ve gone and ticked and if so which one do I fix to get rid of this problem or if all else fails, is there a way to get back the settings that Zbrush comes with before any custome UI settings were applied, but I’d rather know the problem instead of just resetting settings.

Thanks,

Mike

Hey Mike,

I actually had this same issue today! as well. When I would export my base mesh out of Zbrush it would disconect all the polys in the uv map.

I fixed it in ZB by going to (Top menu) Tool > Export > Mrg (button)

Then hit Export.

Hope that fixed it.

Darren

I’m not so lucky, tried that, didn’t work. Argh, I guess I’ll stick to tranferring Uv’s.
