Big Ugly Rat (WIP)

So this is my second attempt at a model in ZBrush.

My first attempt (http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=35731) looked like crap. So I gave up on it since I didnt really know what I was doing or where it was going. Im a lot happier with how this ones coming along though.

I built the mesh out of ZSpheres and worked from there. Started working with projection master & alphas at subdivision 6 when it was around 680k polys. As you can see, its at 2.7 million+ now.

After I give this some color/texture, I would like to render it in Maya with some fur, but Im unfamiliar with the process and found Maya & Mental Ray a bit overwhelming the first time I opened it. If anybody could give me some tips or point me in the right direction Id be thankful.

Heres a little update on my rat. I started adding some texture and figured out a few things about materials and rendering. I was playing around with a fur material I found in the forums, but I cant get it to look right yet…

Any comments / suggestions are appreciated.

So what material is that?

Its just Toyplastic with the specular turned down to 50%

I think she’s kind of cute myself, welcome addition
to any home.

Well after some frustration with figuring out materials, I finally got around to completing this image… Im not entirely happy with it, since I’d would have liked to render it in Maya with a more realistic environment. Too bad setting everything up in Maya is way over my head at this point. So as for now this is finished. I dont think its too bad for a first ZBrush attempt though.

Hey there! You succeeded in your concept: it’s big, ugly, and definately a rat! You can also pat yourself on the back for making a finished image, that’s always difficult (for me it is). You posed your rat in a cool way I think with a sort of crazy hungry look in his eyes. And: nice job on the skinmaterial; looks cool.
Have fun with the next project! :+1:small_orange_diamond:sunglasses:

Thanks for the comment Plakkie. I appreciate it. I know its not the prettiest or most detailed model around here, but its a start for me.

My wifes cat’s keep jumping on me in the middle of the night and keeping me awake. Maybe you could send that guy over to, you know, teach them a lesson.
Great job :+1: Your progressing lots faster than I did. Keep going.

It’s a good start! It’s good to see some more novice work on the forum, let’s me know I’m not the only one in the learning fase. Maybe I should try a big ugly rat myself.
