Best brush to use for simply texturing?

I want to apply texture information without necessarily manipulating the depth/form of the mesh underneath, or at least as little as possible-- using alpha. What brush is best suited for this? It needs to be a brush, so that I can use wrap mode.

Standard brush? Not sure why any other brush would be needed for polypainting, if that is what you mean. You simply need to deactivate the Z intensity to 0 and activate RGB.

Sorry not polypainting, it needs to be actual geometry because it’s for normal map baking.

if you mean adding fine details in the surface of the geometry as pores and wrinkles then the standard brush is fine for alphas etc but also useful the dam standard and pinch and inflate to modify general surface tension.
