hi all!!
im trying to render out a a swirly line on the back of my geometry using a displacement map! as a test!
simple i know but ive been trying for 3 WEEKS!!! AND STILL NO LUCK!
ive been through many tuts including the scott spencer cure!
steps>
1 . i imported the obj file into z brush from maya the - model has great uvs done in headus uv layout!
2. i then divided model by six!! i then sculpted a few swirls on the back of him with a standard brush.
3 . i then dropped to level 1 and generated a 32 bit displacement map using multi displacement 3! SETTINGS IN THUMBNAIL!!
4 . i then create and assign a blinn in maya. create a file node and plugg into displacement! FILE NODE SETTINGS IN THUMBNAIL!
5 . i turn off feature displacement in shape node
6 . i then create a mr approximation node by going to window-rendering editors-mental ray-approximation editor! APPROXIMATION SETTINGS IN THUMBNAIL!
7. i then read the scott spencer thread on maya 2008 displacements and followed those steps!! althougth im NOT SURE if the script worked as i got no result message in the command line (not sure if this supposed to happen)
8. I render and the image is bloated (i was under the impression the ss script would stop this)
9. i adjust the alpha gain and alpha offset settings!! AS IN THUMBNAIL
and render again and this is the result.
(Z BRUSH MODEL AND MAYA MR RENDER)
if you look closely enough you can just about make out the swirls going down the geometry but its hardly visible its not pronounced enough!!
if i adjust the alpha gain and alpha offset settings to higher values you can see the bloated swirls but of course there bloated!!! HELP PLEASE!!!
CAN ANYONE SPOT THE PROBLEM!! I HAVE TRIED MANY VARIATIONS OF THAT WORKFLOW WITH NO EFFECT.
