Hi,
This looks pretty good for a beginner (I’m one too). My only crit is the mass of beard. I know the old sketch looks to have lots but I think it would work better as a bust. Try and show more shoulder and run the beard across the neck and chest. Looks at the hair on the side of the head and how it flows.
i’d say you’re focusing to much on the wrinkles and other details before main forms are blocked out correctly.
Areas in need of improvement in this regard are the bridge of the nose, and the lips especially. The nose bridge appears flat, while the lips are lacking in the correct fullness and inflation.
If this was my sculpt, my crazy Russian sculpture teacher would make me smooth it all out and work the basic forms. “Your doing details again” - he’d say, “That’s for dessert”.
