Augmented Reality Chestburster T-Shirt

Hi guys!
Being a fan of the Alien films, and to celebrate the new Prometheus movie, my colleague and I put together a fun fan-project.
Using ZBrush, Softimage, Unity and Qualcomms Vuforia AR Toolkit we made this AR-app:

You will be able to download a free App for Android and iOS (when/if it gets approved) along with the marker image for
You to play around with our version of the Chestburster.

You can use the marker image on your computer screen, print it on a piece of paper or even print it on a t-shirt like we did.

We just need to change the marker image before we submit the apps so we don´t get sued :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, maybe I will add some more particle effects with bloodspatter. The goal was to finish the project for today, so we kept it quite simple.

Yeah, the sim could be enhanced in various ways, and probably will be over time.

We don´t see it as a finished product, it is just a fun demo two guys put together to
try out if it could be done and then trying to get it out in time for the premiere of the
Prometheus movie to have the coolest t-shirts in the theatre :wink:

More splatter is needed. Also the anticipation of the rip could be enhanced, I agree!
I did the Highpoly model and texture in two days, baking and transfer maps in one day, but
spent 2 weeks on trying to rig and animate the bloody thing. If I hadn’t spent such a long
time on the animation, there would surely be more gore!

Animation and rigging isn’t really my thing. :stuck_out_tongue:

But I was wondering how did you manage to make the chest inside part invisible or hidden to the camera, because it normally would overlap. How did you get that working??

There is a special material or shader that comes with the Vuforia SDK that maps a 3d object with the video stream!
But at 0.55 in the video you see som black lines. This is because the 3d objects with the videostream material didnt cover enough in the Z axis.
