I just activated my trial and keep getting an error saying Zbrush can not connect to the Pixologic server. It will open the trial activation page showing my remaining trial time, but fails in several attempts to connect before quitting.
Is this computer behind a firewall, such as on a company network? If so, you will not be able to use the Trial on that computer. ZBrush must be able to connect directly to the internet with the Trial. (This is not necessary with the commercial version, which only uses the web browser.)
Network connection is through my local residential cable/phone service provider, not a business network. Could a Firefox browser preference be blocking it?
Hi,
well -and how can we test your software ? Just say buy it ! ???
BG - and yes i’m working behind a company firewall (as usual in these days…)
Aurick, In system preferences/security, the firewall was activated on my computer. I allowed the Zbrush trial application to accept incoming connections and disabled the firewall completely. Neither of these options worked. Any other suggestions?
My service provider (Verizon) tested my connection in this matter and there are no firewall settings blocking network traffic on their end. Have other Mac users experienced this with the 4.0 trial?
It’s not the incoming connection that you need to worry about; it’s the outgoing one.
That error only appears at that time if something is preventing ZBrush from being able to communicate directly with our server to verify the activation.
Out of curiosity, when did you download the Trial? Was it possibly a while ago and you’re only now trying to use it? If that’s the case, you might have a copy of the Trial from before we migrated servers. In that case, requesting and downloading the Trial again should resolve the problem.
If it’s not that, I have no idea why this would be happening to you.
Yes, it’s been a while since I downloaded the installation file. I’ll try your suggestion. Thanks!
hello, I just downloaded the trial today and I am getting the same error. I am not behind a firewall, I am on a home network, and I am using Chrome.
are there any other things I should be checking? I also just updated Java last night, so I’m wondering if there is a problem with that?
Syncrasis, It was working for me after downloading the latest version two days ago. Now I’m getting a 404 URL Not Found Error when the browser opens for activation. It’s the first time this particular error occurred for me.
I completed a trial project and closed ZBrush. I then tried to connect again to start another project but could not connect w/server. Wonder if server is overloaded ? I have no trouble w/connecting to other sites on Safari.:qu:
Also getting 404 error when attempting to use the Zbrush trial. I authorized successfully several times yesterday (between 4pm and 11pm EST), and now its refusing to go to the website. Here is the link giving me the 404 -
http://www.pixologic05.com/z4trial/activate.php?number=2500&ci=AACFELLNKGBI
and the full text of the 404:

Hope this helps solve the issue, I had only recently decided to try the trial to see if its something I should save up for as a Christmas present to myself. I love Sculptris, and as I’ve argued with many of my friends I buy from companies that create software I like unless their prices are too outrageous - then I use open source alternatives. $700 USD is a bit on the high end for me, considering I’m only a hobbyist artist and a bit gunshy about sharing my creations. I’m proficient with blender and wanted to see if ZBrush would be as good in my workflow as Sculptris is turning out to be. Right now I’m leaning towards going for a Cintiq display instead, but you never know.
Thanks in advance,
PV
This is probably related to the same error that’s causing troubles for people trying to download Sculptris or plugins. I’ve brought it to the attention of our webmasters. Thanks!
This may help
It may be that ZBrush does not have full permissions to write the computer ID to
its files.
I would like you to try the following:
- Exit
ZBrush. - Right-click on the ZBrush application, in the ZBrush 4.0 folder.
(Windows 7 users can simply right-click on the desktop shortcut.) - Choose
Properties and go to the Compatibility tab of the window that will open.
At the bottom of the Compatibility tab you will see an option to run this
program as an administrator. Activate that check box and click the Apply
button.
5) Close the window. DO NOT activate any other options on the
Compatibility tab as doing so will prevent ZBrush from activating
successfully.
6) Launch ZBrush. You will need to confirm your action in the
Windows warning window that will appear.
7) Activate and use ZBrush like
normal.
Also, the server issues that were happening over the weekend have been resolved. (Naturally, this would happen during a holiday weekend!) So anyone not behind a firewall who was having issues should try again. It will most likely work now.
Thanks!
Somebody fixed something and i can run the Getting Started videos now. Thank you somebody.
I also can’t connect to the trial activation site.
I’m working from my school, and it has been working all week, but today when I tried to activate it, it didn’t work

Our IT manager has been alerted. Try again in a few hours and it should be fine again.
Thanks
Hey there,
still can’t access zbrush activation (since yesterday), i.e. though there is not 404-error anymore, the page shows nothing except for the navigation bar. Thus, cannot click ‘activate now’. ‘Check now’ from within ZBrush still fails.
Already cleared cached browser content, refreshed. Even activated with a different browser (IE, which has never loaded this page before). Should not be a browser issue.
So, as you apparently fixed the ‘page not found’-error => did not solve the issue => are you still working on that? Please fix.
Thx, Ben
