It was a while ago, so i don’t remember correctly but :
Since it was a school project with multiple characters the lighting had to be similar for all of them (default Maya exterior HDR, cold rim light and blue fill light), someone made a preset and we all had to use it.
I thought it was too basic so I changed some stuff, added a red light on the left, and an area light inside the egg sack. Couldn’t work out the scattering so the light goes through it thanks to an opacity map (hand painted in substance).
After the end of the project I wanted to push the image further, so I graded it in Photoshop, added more orange glow, painted some white reflections, made the bottom darker to have it fade in with the background, a corridor in the Nostromo.
My goal was to make the image dark and moody like in the movie, but to be able to see a lot of detail.

Now I only have rig my chessboard for that motion detector sound. Maybe some dry ice for fog effects…
