I’ve been looking all over for an answer for this, which has happened before as well. I was working on a masked area, then I clicked showpt to reveal the model. After hitting Dynamesh a huge straight slice is taken out of the model leaving that side open. If I dynamesh again it closes that opening into a flat wall. Ever since this, now I also have issues loading Zbrush and gets stuck almost everytime I try to dynamesh this model which has over 2 mil. polygons. How can I fix this issue and dynamesh without losing part of the model??
When I try to dynamesh now:

http://docs.pixologic.com/?s=dynamesh Keep reviewing. A bunch of posts cover Dynameshing problems.
Masked isn’t the same as hidden. Your method of working may need revision.
How to make sure nothing is hidden then? Since showpt had shown everything. Anyhow whenever I work on this model and try to dynamesh now zbrush gets stuck. Not sure what to do to the model to make it friendlier for the program.
Pictures would be helpful here. It’s difficult to understand your description of the issue without seeing it.
As for mesh visibility, it’s used in conjunction with masking and polygroups to help isolate polygons, far more effectively than masking alone. It would benefit you greatly to familiarize yourself with these functions:
http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/modeling-basics/mesh-visibility/
http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/modeling-basics/polygroups/
Dynamshing can’t occur when an object is masked. Masking must be cleared first. If you dynamesh with a partially hidden mesh, you’re only remeshing the visible portion.
I recreated the issue. As you can see, full visual model. Once dynameshed a part is now missing and the mesh is opened. I even cloned the subtool and dynameshed to the same result. Now if I dynamesh again the open area closes to a flat wall on the model. I’m sure there is a way around this by creating this into an obj. and continuing from there, but I must know what does this? It’s not the first time…
Could this be due to a weakness in the computer’s hardware?
Try updating to ZB4R6 P2.
When you dynamesh, are you dynameshing with the model fully visible? Is it possible your model has become unwelded somehow or another? Are you able you able to move the pieces apart along that same seam prior to dynameshing?
I admit, I’m at a loss for what I’m looking at here. If the issue persists after updating to the most recent program version, the mesh has become problematic somehow. Even if unwelded, the two parts should dynamesh into separate objects, not simply disappear.
Prior to dynameshing next time in the up to date program version, delete any lower levels of subdivision, and in Tool> Geometry >Modify Topology> Weld Identical points. Then, in Tool>Geometry> Mesh Integrity, select “Fix Mesh”. Then try to dynamesh.
If that changes nothing, before dynameshing next time, try “Make Polymesh 3d” in the top of the tool menu under "export. That sometimes fixes problems.
Spyndal thanks,
I welded and fixed the mesh but the end result was again a split mesh.
But
After I clicked Make Polymesh 3D, and dynameshed… walla! It worked. Not sure if that’s what I’ve done in the past and I sure do hope this thread will be helpful to others.
So thanks again, I do hope Zbrush starts running smoother after this again. Ever since this incident Zbrush would get stuck at loading time or dynameshing time. I think that mesh may have had some corruption to it that effected the program system stemming from the quicksaves.

I’m glad you got it sorted. As to what caused this, I couldn’t say. If you say it’s happening frequently, there is something in your workflow that is problematic. I couldn’t say more without knowing how and where you were creating these meshes.
