ZRemesher not reducing polys

Question: While isolating some geometry from a very dense mesh (25 mil) I attempt to isolate 3.79 polys of that particular subtool and use ZRemesher to bring the 3.79 million polys down to half, or even targeted less than half in another attempt, have ran this multiple times and the issue is after its done calculating it actually adds more geometry. If anyone has any clue on what I may be missing I would appreciate any advice. Thanks

Hello @MC72

Welcome to ZBC!

Target polycount in ZRemesher is more of a suggestion than a hard and fast rule. It will still do what it needs to do to best conform to the other settings you have defined. There is also a practical limit to how far ZRemesher can reduce the polycount on any mesh and still be faithful to the form.

From the Documentation:

To best respect the number of polygons defined by your Target setting, simply set Adaptive Size to zero, resulting in a uniform distribution of square polygons. If this produces undesirable results in areas such as fingers, disable the Adaptive Density mode instead. This forces ZRemesher to get as close as possible to the Target Polygon Count setting.

Other settings will play an important role too. For instance if you freeze the borders, ZRemesher will do what it needs to to preserve those verts exactly, and may not reduce the polycount at all.

Take Care! :slightly_smiling_face:

I appreciate it. Thank you.
