Zmodeler mask loop edge?

hello I would like to ask if I can mask like frame mesh??
Zmodeler’s mask seems not easy and intuitive…
If I could mask by boolean of tube made by frame mesh. It also nice.
Are there nice way to mask like frame mesh??

Hello @katosaori!

By their nature, topology-based targets are sensitive to the topology of the mesh. In this case it is likely to be the triangular polygons converging to a point on the edge that prevents the feature from recognizing the edge loop that you want to mask. If the poly loop were all quads you shouldn’t have any problem.

There are many options in ZBrush for isolating points for masking. More importantly there are many options for converting one type of selection to another.

Yes!

Tool> Masking> Mask by Feature provides some masking options that are very similar to the Frame Mesh feature for curves.

In addition, I would point out the ZModeler Transpose function, which will auto-mask everything but the target selection in order to quickly isolate it. It is then a simple matter to Ctrl-click on empty canvas space to invert that masking. However, this is subject to the same topological limitations.

If you wish to select points on the mesh in screen space, disable Perspective mode and orientate the mesh so you can easily place all the desired points under a masking marquee brush like Mask Lasso. It should be easy to lasso points on a low poly mesh like this one.

With the Mask by Feature option, one of the options allows you to convert any Creasing into masking, and there are many options for defining Creases. One of my favorite features for quickly defining the path for a Crease on complicated topology is the ZModeler> Point> Crease> Shortest Path feature. With this you can rapidly click from point to point on a mesh and it will crease the shortest path in between those points. This lets you crease large sections of an edge loop quickly, then manually go point to point in more complicated areas to get exactly the crease you want. That Creasing can then be converted to Mask.

Hope that’s helpful!

Hello SPYNDEL. I appliciate for the answer .
“Mask by Feature” is what I wanted to do .
And point to point shortest path crease to “mask by crease” is great solution too :confetti_ball: :tada:
