ZBrush Training DVD's at Gnomon

GnomonAnnouncement.jpg

The Gnomon workshop has now released the first three titles in its series of training DVD’s dedicated to ZBrush. These DVD’s teach the techniques of Meats Meier and Zack Petroc, both of whom are amazingly talented artists and active members of the ZBC community.

We’d like to encourage ZBC members to visit the press release to learn more about these artists and the DVD series.

Happy ZBrushing!

Got all three ordered mid-afternoon yesterday. Not sure what timezone they’re in, or how fast they process an order for shipment. Kind of hoping “2nd day air” means I have it before Monday, though.

Go team! Go!

I ordered all 3 yesterday too. 2nd day air. I hope I’ll get them by at least Saturday.I should have them by Tomorrow though. I can’t wait. I have to finish some other work now so I can play with these right away when I get them.

BTW, Meats is doing a ZSpheres DVD, but we wont be able to see it until the ZB - update is released for obvious reasons.

awesome to hear that.

I bought zack’s dvd last night. gonna get the other 2 when i can afford them next month. today is my birthday too. how great a present!

Gnomon DVD’s are longer available at the 3DShop.

Has anyone shopped at www.3dlinks.com ?
Is it a reputable and safe store?

I haven’t, no.

But, here’s my thing:

Free shipping is, by it’s very nature, slower than expedited shipping. I paid extra for 2-Day Air because the thought of waiting 7-10 days for this made me very unhappy. The shipping you don’t have to pay for is usually slower than that. (Media Mail, anyone?) And you’re dealing with a middle-man here, who has to wait for their shipment to arrive before they can even send it.

Time being money, which approach offers the greater savings?

I was actually in the process of ordering this package…until it came to the postage options (ONE option): Fed Ex - at a cost of $80 to post to the UK! They have got to be joking! In the UK we also have to pay 17.5% Value Added Tax (VAT) $30.63 making a grand total of (Including the cost of the DVD’s at $175): $285.63. I would quite happily wait a lot longer than the quoted 2-5 days to receive the package and pay a more reasonable amount for postage, but you don’t get the option. I’ll say it again - $285.63 IF YOU LIVE IN THE UK!!! Needless to say I DIDN’T order it.

That was through 3dlinks.com?

I can’t actually use FedEx – they keep dropping my packages at the wrong address. I get nothing but apologies out of that courier.

Just out of interest, I went to Amazon.Comto see how their charges for posting 3 DVD packages to the UK compared to the $80 ‘3DLinks’ want to charge.

11 To 18 Business Days: $11.96
5 To 10 Business Days: $16.46
2 To 4 Business Days: $33.96

So ‘ZB_Artist’, hope that answers part of your question!

It’s a pity there’s no way that Gnomon can sell this package through Amazon!

Hi ‘Vanburen’

I’m sorry if I gave the impression I was worrying, speculating, or requiring any form of clarification. I just require a much cheaper (and slower) shipping option. The $11.96 option quoted in my previous post would be nice. I did realise that ‘Free Shipping’ would likely not apply to Europe, but $80 !!

this bundle sounds like a good deal to me and tempted.
BUT
the $80 for shipping to the uk seems high…but then how quick is international priority?
is there an alternative rate to the uk available for shipping?
thanks for your help…cheers.:+1:

Sometimes it is. But in this day and age, it makes people immediately suspicious. Free software, for example, will likely bog your system down with spyware to cover it’s development costs. Not always, but often enough that we’re wary.

That said, I do appreciate that you stepped in to personally respond. If I’d taken the time to look, I would have seen this in your policy page:

All orders placed at the Ulimate 3D Links 3DShop online store are shipped to locations within the United States via UPS or FedEx. Delivery times average 2-5 days.

Shipping to the USA is FREE for orders over $100.00

I offer my apologies for asking the public for information I could have easily gotten myself, and for weighting that question with past experiences that don’t relate to you or your shop. We’ve obviously never done business together, so I was strictly generalizing. Sorry about that.

I still can’t use FedEx, but you did provide contact info on that page, and suggested that UPS is possible. If I hadn’t already ordered direct from Gnomon, I’d probably be e-mailing you to ask about that (as well as faster shipping options). The bundle you offer is a good deal, to be sure.

But, yes. You are looking at the loss of international sales if you can’t work something out with a different courier. Hopefully that can be resolved soon, to everyone’s benefit.

To everyone else: Don’t take it personally that he doesn’t ship in the such volume to warrant the price breaks Amazon receives. This one falls under the banner of “Life isn’t fair.”

This is a racist anti-English thing because you’re all bitter that you lost the war of independence, and we kicked your butts. Or did we lose it and you kicked ours? I’m not sure, my History isn’t very good. Whatever. Anyway, if Joan of Arc was alive today she’d be spinning in her grave to see your country wanting to charge our country $80 to post 3 DVDs. So much for the ‘Kerry/Thatcher Alliance’!

Aaron - On behalf of the British DVD-deprived public, we appreciate your supportive comment.

Man do I hate that. You pay a ton extra for 2 day shipping, and you end up getting it on, or after you normally would paying less. What a bunch of $h*t. Looks like I should have these on monday like I would have otherwise.

Hey, I suggested not taking personally what can’t be avoided. If you want to take THAT personally, I guess that can’t be avoided either.

Do note that the paragraph prior ended with “Hopefully that can be resolved soon, to everyone’s benefit.” – See, by everyone, I meant you. What do I care if he finds a cheaper courier? It doesn’t affect me at all. But I do hope he finds one, and I said as much, so you’ll be afforded the same privilige I lucked into by living on the same continent as the vendor.

Dude, I’m sorry that you’re faced with a frustrating situation. That sucks. But, you aren’t going to resolve it by attacking the diplomats.

I had hoped we might persuade someone on this side of the Atlantic to do the research and extra work necessary to make this happen for you. Given your reactions, I don’t see that as likely. No plan that relies on someone doing you a favor will see fruition, it seems. So here’s my new suggestion: Wait.

3dlinks.com is one reseller of Gnomon DVDs. They service primarily one market (America), but they don’t do so exclusively. Gnomon itself sells the videos through their website, and will offer them through their schools as of this coming Wednesday, I believe. And this is important, because if Gnomon is making deals for one company to buy to distribute their videos, and it’s not an exclusive arrangement, a more local distributor, who only has to pay international shipping rates on their bulk orders, will probably crop up soon.

There’s clearly a demand for one. Someone’s bound to step up to the plate. And if they don’t? Get organized and contact Gnomon yourself – it’s a great opportunity…

One week before Christmas? That’s not when you’d have got it otherwise – you’d be lucky if it showed up before January. :stuck_out_tongue:
